Computer Technician

Under the general supervision of the IT Director, the Computer Technician is responsible for maintaining computer hardware, peripherals, and software throughout the Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) system, including the Regional Office, branch libraries, and LINK Sites. This position provides technical support to LARL staff and the designated technical contact for Northwest Regional Library (NWRL) as a member of the Help Desk Team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Hardware Support Procure, configure, install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair workstations, including: Desktop computers (Windows) Laptop computers (Windows and ChromeOS) Public kiosks (Linux and ChromeOS) Procure, configure, install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair peripheral equipment, including: Printers and copiers Flatbed and barcode scanners LCD projectors, digital signage, and presentation displays Procure, configure, install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mobile devices, including: Android tablets Amazon Fire tablets Software and Systems Administration Install, configure, maintain, and support software used throughout LARL and NWRL, including: Integrated Library System (ILS) client software Microsoft Office and other productivity applications Endpoint security and device management software Create deployment packages and deploy software and configuration updates using enterprise software deployment tools. Assist the IT Director in creating, maintaining, testing, and deploying workstation images. Maintain accurate records of hardware inventories, software licensing, versions, configurations, spare equipment, and technology assets. Assist with Google Workspace user account administration, including staff onboarding and account management. Help Desk and Technical Support Provide technical support for LARL and NWRL staff by receiving, prioritizing, troubleshooting, and resolving issues related to: Computers and mobile devices Local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN) Wireless networking Web-based applications Library-supported technology systems Utilize Help Desk software in accordance with established procedures and service goals. Provide technical documentation, user instruction, and knowledge-sharing resources for Help Desk staff and library employees. Assist with testing, implementation, and deployment of new technologies and system upgrades. Participate on technology project teams as assigned. Assist with technology training sessions for library staff. Collaborate with Help Desk Team members to develop consistent documentation and training resources. Planning and Administration Make recommendations regarding technology purchases and implementation plans in consultation with the IT Director. Research new hardware, software, and technology solutions to support library operations. Operate standard office equipment, including network copiers, telephones, postage equipment, carts, and other office technology. Perform other related duties as assigned by the IT Director or Executive Director. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of: Windows 10 and Windows 11 ChromeOS Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint) used for kiosk applications Desktop and laptop computer hardware Thermal receipt and laser printers Flatbed and barcode scanners Microsoft Office applications Basic networking concepts Ability to troubleshoot, repair, configure, and deploy computer hardware and software. Basic scripting knowledge using PowerShell, Windows Command Shell, AutoIt, or similar automation tools. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to exercise sound judgment within established policies and procedures. Ability to research emerging technologies and recommend solutions. Ability to travel regularly throughout the LARL service area. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to attend professional development opportunities to remain current with evolving technology. Associate degree or coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related field preferred. One to two years of related technical support experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred. Licenses Valid driver’s license required. Ability to travel frequently throughout the LARL service area. Language Skills Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Working Conditions: Work location is in the Regional Office of Lake Agassiz Regional Library in Moorhead, MN. This position is 40 hours per week position, Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm. May be required to work beyond normal schedule for occasional roll-outs of new equipment.
