Geriatric Physician Opportunity

Borinquen Medical Center in Miami, Florida is seeking a compassionate and well-equipped geriatric physician for a full-time clinical position with the opportunity to be on faculty for the family medicine residency program.

The applicant must be passionate about serving patients in the setting of an urban FQHC. The center offers multi-specialty care with an emphasis on continuity of care and preventative health care for all ages.

The residency is an outpatient focused program with 12 residents (4-4-4) with a mission of training residents to serve their community and address social determinants of health. The physician will play an active role in the development of the residency and its residents. The physician will have the opportunity to train residents in women's health and outpatient pediatrics as well.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Examines patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
2. Counsels patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care.
3. Supervises the primary care service clinic as delegated by the Chief Medical Officer.
4. Makes referrals to specialists for further testing, diagnosis or treatment.
5. Participates in the training and in service programs as the Medical Director indicates.
6. Obtains and maintains active hospital practice.
7. Will participate in a 24 hour coverage program including after-hours phone calls and hospital coverage, evenly distributed among all physicians.
8. Meets or exceeds the minimum guideline of 4,200 medical encounters per year as mandated by HHS.
9. Participates in committees of the medical staff and regular clinical audits as indicated for quality assurance and peer review.
10. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
11. Relates to the community and other local professionals as a representative of our health centers.
12. Performs and reports the quality improvement audits to the Medical Director.
13. Maintains contact with applicable agencies/organizations for guidance in the solution of compliance problems.
14. Create and modify documents for activities, and prepares reports as required.
15. Read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
16. Weigh the relative costs and benefits of a potential action.
17. Develop and/or implement new policies/procedures/standards and/or rules/regulations
18. Ensure compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures, etc.
19. Maintain accurate documentation of all services rendered in patient chart.
20. Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
21. Maintain records, prepare reports, and conduct correspondence related to the work.
22. Relates to the community and other local professionals as a representative of our health centers.
23. Support staff in assigned project based work.
24. Performs other reasonable and proper duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Requirements

1. Possession of a Medical Degree (M.D. or D.O.)
2. Licensed in the State of Florida.
3. Geriatric Medicine Specialist/Family Medicine with Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or by American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine (AOBFM)
4. Must be Board Eligible or Certified in a primary care specialty.
5. Experience with Geriatric Patients.
6. Must qualify for active staff privileges at local hospital.
7. Experience in primary care, public health, or community health preferred.
8. Bilingual (Creole Preferred)
9. Strong interpersonal skills.
10. Handle the information with high level of confidentiality.
