What You’ll Do

The Student Support Leader at Gateway High School (GHS), offered through Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), supports students in graduating with the skills, habits, and knowledge necessary for academic and personal success in college and beyond. In this role, you will oversee two primary areas—Enrichment Programs and Leadership Programs—to ensure students receive strong academic instruction, wrap-around services, and engaging extracurricular activities. Working closely with the BGCSF Site Director, Gateway Student Activities Director, and GHS staff, you will actively foster youth voice and student leadership across the campus.

This is a school-year position requiring 32 hours per week, with a schedule that may vary to include occasional evening and weekend hours depending on program needs. While the core schedule follows the academic calendar, candidates also have the option to work 6–8 weeks during the summer at another BGCSF location, depending on site and hour availability.

Program Facilitation and Oversight

• Meet with students weekly with various areas of focus, including collaboration with school administration and other decision-making bodies, supporting events related to a positive school climate, addressing student and community issues that may be impacting the culture of the school, and other topics decided on by the students
• Develop and facilitate curriculum that focuses on personal leadership development, and social and emotional learning
• Manage the physical space of the Study Café, including defining and reinforcing appropriate student usage, and working with students and teachers to maintain and improve the space
• Serve as the teacher on record for Independent Study students, including defining the criteria for earning Independent Study credit, communicating with students and parents about their progress, taking daily attendance, and evaluating students on a pass/fail basis
• Support Independent Study students in prioritizing and completing work
• Provide CyberHigh support for students working on online credit recovery
• Act as a liaison between the students and Gateway staff by managing and developing student ideas, working with school administration on proper implementation and connecting and involving Gateway teachers
• Transport students in Club vehicles or on public transportation as needed, according to BGCSF’s and GHS’s policies and procedures to ensure Club members’/students’ safety at all times

Administrative

• Manage accurate and timely collection of attendance and participation data by accessing and inputting attendance into the attendance database on a daily basis
• Analyze the attendance data for any inconsistencies or incomplete entries and cross reference actual numbers to goals
• Attend all required meetings and trainings
• Implement and track BGCSF program outcome measurements outlined in the School-Based Clubs program requirements
• Completion of any other duties deemed necessary by the BGCSF Site Director
• At all times, maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco and Gateway High School

Collaborative Duties

• Develop and maintain communication and positive relationships with all stakeholders
• Work in close collaboration with Gateway administrators and staff, parents, and BGCSF Citywide Services
• Provide any requested program updates and progress reports to Site Director, school administrators, funders, and/or other stakeholders
• Respond promptly and professionally to all program and information enquiries
• Promote program visibility within Gateway and BGCSF communities
• Actively participate in and support school-wide events, such as family nights, back-to-school nights, and more

What You Bring

Required

• Equivalent work experience in youth development, education, or community settings (or a BA/BS degree).
• Experience working with teenagers and young adults.
• Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and comfort driving a 12-passenger van to transport youth.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Highly punctual, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet competing deadlines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong record-keeping, data entry, and detail-oriented administrative skills.
• Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
• Ability to commit to a 32-hour work week following the school-year calendar.

Preferred

• BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university.
• Direct teaching or professional facilitation experience with high school-aged youth.
• Experience working with students from traditionally underserved communities.
• Prior experience working with attendance and youth tracking database systems.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
• Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Compensation

The wage range for this position is $26–$28 per hour. Final compensation is determined based on a range of factors, including skill set, experience, training, certifications, and organizational needs. Candidates may be hired at the entry, mid, or senior level of the range, depending on qualifications and position requirements.

Pre-Employment Requirements

As part of the hiring process, BGCSF requires candidates to complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
