And so much more.​   ​Come break through with us.  Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.Scope of RoleThe Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of robust, cost-effective automation and process machine systems for Corning’s manufacturing plants. This role leads cross-functional project teams through concept development, detailed design, build, system integration, installation, and production startup.We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and organized engineer with at least 5 years of mechanical design experience and strong proficiency in SolidWorks/Inventor, AutoCAD, and GD&T.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop machine design concepts, detailed mechanical designs & specifications.Design and support prototype and production process equipment through build, integration, and startup.Troubleshoot mechanical and process equipment issues and develop practical, robust solutions.Identify equipment design improvements, conduct proof-of-concept testing, collect and evaluate data, and implement design improvements.Coordinate with external machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers to deliver integrated systems on time and within budget.Prepare and review construction and installation drawings and ensure as-built documentation meets standards.Support engineering projects for equipment installation, capacity expansion, machine debug, and operations handoff.Track project schedules, expenditures, and progress, and report results to stakeholders.Work Hours, Location and Travel Requirements40+ hours/weekLocation: Newton, North CarolinaTravel: 10-20%Experiences/Education - RequiredB.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering5+ years of experience in mechanical design and development of production machinery, automated systems, or process equipmentStrong proficiency in: SolidWorks and/or Inventor, AutoCAD, GD&TExperience with mechanical design practices, automation systems, robotics, material handling, and system integrationStrong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsExperiences/Education - DesiredExperience working with external machine builders and system integratorsKnowledge of electro-mechanical systems, pneumatics, fluid power, part sensing, alignment, and machine safety standardsResults-oriented, self-motivated, and technically curiousDetail oriented & strong organizational skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision in a team-based, matrixed environmentThis position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $95,227.00 - $130,938.00 assuming full time status.
