Staff Accountant (Audit & Assurance)

Role: Interim Audit Assistant

Location: Hawthorne, NJ - Local Travel to Client Sites | Entry-Level Opportunity

Duration: 4+ months; 30-35 hours per week

Hourly Compensation: $22.00 - $24.50

A respected public accounting and advisory firm is seeking an Audit Assistant to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent accounting graduate or early-career professional interested in developing a career in audit, financial reporting, and public accounting . The role offers hands-on exposure to financial statement preparation, auditing procedures, and client engagement while working alongside experienced accounting professionals.

Position Overview

The Staff Accountant will support audit and accounting engagements for a diverse client base, including local educational institutions and public sector organizations. This position provides extensive training and mentorship, with increasing responsibility based on demonstrated performance and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with financial statement audits and accounting engagements.
• Perform substantive and compliance testing to evaluate financial accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Review financial transactions, records, and reports to identify discrepancies and irregularities.
• Prepare and maintain detailed workpapers and audit documentation.
• Analyze financial data and support audit findings and conclusions.
• Collaborate with clients to obtain information and documentation required for audit procedures.
• Utilize accounting and audit software to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Work closely with senior team members to meet engagement deadlines and client expectations.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
• Understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with accounting technology and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Desire to build a long-term career in public accounting and auditing.
