JDC Power Systems, LLC , is seeking a motivated part-time Field Service Technician (FSR2) to join our team and support our field operations. In this hands-on role, you will perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and industrial controls at client sites. As an FSR2 technician, you will take on more complex tasks and handle a wider range of responsibilities with increased independence. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with power systems, electrical equipment, and industrial controls, as well as a commitment to delivering high-quality service and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service Support:

• Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, LV/MV switchgear, PLC controls, and other electrical equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve issues on-site with minimal supervision, ensuring minimal downtime and operational efficiency.
• Perform inspections and testing to ensure systems are working correctly and meet industry standards.
• Collaborate with senior technicians and engineers to handle complex service calls and escalate when necessary.

Customer Interaction & Support:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for customers during service visits, addressing technical issues, providing solutions, and ensuring high customer satisfaction.
• Document and provide clear and accurate feedback on service activities, including test reports, troubleshooting results, and system performance.

Operational Efficiency:

• Perform service work independently, prioritizing tasks and ensuring timely completion of all service requests.
• Help organize and schedule service calls to ensure efficient service delivery and minimize downtime for clients.
• Work with internal teams to coordinate resources, parts, and tools required for service activities.
• Maintain accurate records of service work, inventory, time tracking, and equipment usage.
• Use remote diagnostic tools and support junior and senior technicians in troubleshooting and resolving issues remotely.

Health & Safety Compliance:

• Ensure all work complies with company safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and industry regulations.
• Conduct site-specific safety assessments and audits, identifying potential hazards and mitigating risks.
• Complete safety briefings and provide guidance to junior technicians on maintaining a safe work environment.

Ongoing Improvement & Innovation:

• Stay up to date with new technology, trends, and industry best practices to continuously improve service quality.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, suggesting enhancements to service delivery and customer experience.
• Contribute to the development and documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices for field service activities.

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
• Certifications such as NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, or other technical certifications are a plus.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a field service technician, with a focus on power systems, electrical equipment, or industrial controls.
• Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing complex electrical systems and components.
• Previous experience with field service management tools or software is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, transformers, circuit breakers, LV/MV switchgear, and protective relay systems.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently resolve complex technical issues.
• Familiarity with standard electrical tools, test equipment (e.g., multimeters, relay test sets), and diagnostic software.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues and solutions to customers and team members.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple service calls simultaneously.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Other Requirements:

• Willingness and ability to travel frequently, with overnight stays, to visit customer sites and JDC locations across the country.
• A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Commitment to safety and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Extra Competencies:

• Experience with electrical systems at low and medium voltage levels.
• Basic experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and protective relay systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

General Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–12 hours per day) on job sites
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat, crouch, and crawl in confined or restricted spaces
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas
• Ability to work in various industrial environments, including but not limited to indoors and outdoors, in dust and dirt, and in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures

Lifting & Material Handling:

• Frequently lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 lbs
• Occasionally lift and move materials up to 75 lbs with assistance or mechanical aids
• Ability to push, pull, and maneuver equipment such as switchgear components, cable reels, and test equipment

Manual Dexterity & Tool Use:

• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely and effectively
• Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for terminating cables, wiring, and precision adjustments
• Ability to work while wearing gloves and arc-flash PPE
• Ability to comply with PPE requirements, including but not limited to working while wearing gloves and in full PPE, such as arc-flash suits, hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, and fall protection gear

Vision & Hearing:

• Adequate visual acuity to read schematics, labels, and digital displays
• Ability to distinguish colors for wiring identification
• Ability to receive and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, verbal instructions, and safety communications through effective means

Work Environment Conditions:

• Exposure to electrical hazards (energized and de-energized systems)
• High noise levels requiring hearing protection
• Dust, dirt, and industrial conditions typical of construction and energized facilities
• Ability to comply with and work in full PPE including arc-flash suits, hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, and fall protection gear

Travel & Schedule Demands:

• Ability to travel frequently (regional or national)
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and on-call schedules
• Ability to adapt to extended shifts during commissioning and startup activities
