The Elementary Principal serves as the instructional/educational leader responsible for student learning, staff development and curriculum planning. This position is responsible for the safety of students, staff and activities in addition to providing a pleasant and effective academic environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate and five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary school level.
- Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or Administration.
- Holds a valid Michigan administrative certificate.
- Current knowledge of educational theory, reform, best practices and State and Federal Regulations.
- Ability and desire to work effectively with students, staff and community.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a K-12 setting, preferably at the elementary level.
- Experience leading or working within a Title I building is preferred.
- Ability to mediate conflict, prioritize tasks, and build relationships
- Ability to assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, as well as that of the staff; stay current with changing regulations, techniques, and best practices
- Leads, supports and supervises the implementation of state standards and district curriculum of elementary schools in all subjects; assure compliance with all State/Federal laws and regulations regarding students, staff, and the education programs.
- Uses varied sources of evidence and analyzes data about current practices and outcomes to shape vision, mission, and goals with high measurable expectations for all students and educators.
- Incorporates diverse perspectives and builds consensus to provide equitable, appropriate, and effective learning opportunities for every student to achieve.
- Supervises the instructional program and evaluates the performance of teachers; uses data about teacher practice to identify and support individual and team professional learning needs across a continuum of professional growth. Builds a professional culture of trust, openness and collaboration, engaging teachers in sharing information, analyzing outcomes, and planning improvement.
- Develops shared understanding of and commitment to ongoing professional development to achieve high expectations for all students.
- Guides and supports quality professional development that results in improved teaching and learning and meets diverse learning needs for all students.
- Uses or develops data systems and other sources of information to identify unique strengths and needs of students, gaps between current outcomes and goals, and areas for improvement.
- Leading and overseeing building MTSS processes.
- Monitors and supports district IRIPs (Individual Reading Improvement Plans) for eligible students.
- Provides leadership for building school improvement processes following district and state requirements.
- Adheres to all safety and security requirements at the state and district levels.
- Promote positive student attitudes toward school and learning.
- Implement character education principles into all facets of the school community.
- Promote positive school community relations by involving the school community in meaningful activities.
- Effectively promote and enforce school policy; provide discipline as needed.
- Collaborate in an effective manner with other administrative peers.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with the school's parent community.
- Understand and implement all master agreements and adhere to the District's policies.
- Allocate the school budget so it relates to the educational values and needs of all students.
- Attend, lead, supervise and participate in school and district activities such as graduation, conferences, district meetings, etc.
- Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position, and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups.
