Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Inpatient position requiring at least 3 years of MS/Tele experience, with PCU rotation responsibilities at an acute care facility in New Mexico.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with 26 beds on a Med/Surg unit
• Patients include medical, surgical, and PCU-level cases; nurses may rotate into the PCU area where patients can be critically ill, on drips, or have invasive monitors
• No ICU on-site; critical patients requiring higher-level care are transferred to an outside facility
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5
• CNAs on unit at a 1:8 ratio, assisting with vitals, ADLs, I/Os, transfers, transports, and showers
• Respiratory therapy staff available in-house 24/7; unit manages all respiratory equipment including continuous BiPAP/CPAP
• Mindray cardiac monitors used on unit; nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• EMR: TruBridge - Evident (also referenced as CPSI)
• Common titratable drips include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in use
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
• Every other weekend required
• May be included in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement for RNs

Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience required
• PCU or stepdown experience preferred
• Ability to titrate drips required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• LTAC experience a plus
• Ability to maintain intubation preferred

Additional Information

• Facility is working toward achieving Level IV trauma center designation, offering more clinical capabilities than typical for its size
• Nurses rotating into the PCU area may care for patients on drips and invasive monitoring
• 1-2 days of on-unit orientation with a preceptor provided, based on individual needs
• Online modules must be completed prior to beginning floor work; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete
• Travelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling to help fill gaps; manager will attempt to accommodate preferences but permanent staff scheduling takes priority
• Travelers are not typically asked to take on charge nurse responsibilities
• Navy blue scrubs required
