Travel Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Chesapeake, Virginia

Seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN for a 13-week travel nursing assignment in Chesapeake, Virginia. Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
• Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
• Healthcare Setting: 14-bed post-surgical medical-surgical telemetry unit
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics, including urology and GYN surgical patients
• Start Date: November 9, 2026
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 8, 2027
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Schedule: 3x12s or 4x12s; standard scheduling is approximately 36 hours per week
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:7
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holidays during the assignment are required
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic

Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Requirements

• Active Virginia or Compact Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
• At least two years of recent, relevant Med/Surg Tele or medical-surgical telemetry nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Demonstrated experience caring for patients at a 1:7 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Strong telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
• Successful completion of a required telemetry/EKG assessment with a score of 80% or higher
• Current Epic charting experience
• Ability to meet required respiratory fit-testing standards; PAPR accommodations are not available
• Clear professional license and background history required
• Flu vaccination is required; approved medical or religious exemptions and declinations may be considered

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric patients on a high-volume post-surgical medical-surgical telemetry unit
• Continuously monitor telemetry patients and recognize, assess, and respond to changes in cardiac rhythms and patient condition
• Care for patients recovering from urologic and GYN procedures, including surgical drain management and continuous bladder irrigation
• Administer medications and treatments, including care involving heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols, PCA therapy, and blood products
• Perform central line, PICC, peripheral IV, feeding tube, tracheostomy, wound, and oxygen care as appropriate
• Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, rapid response teams, pharmacy, respiratory services, rehabilitation, radiology, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Follow isolation precautions, participate in emergency response, and promote patient safety and quality outcomes
• Float or adjust assignments as needed within the unit’s operational requirements
