General Function

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Water Exercise Instructor teaches aquatic exercises classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

• Minimum age of 18
• Current CPR-Pro, First-Aid, AED, Emergency
• Current AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional or other nationally recognized certification or YASA (YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant) and YMCA Water Fitness Instructor Certifications.
• Certification in specialty areas of expertise desired. (SilverSneakers Splash®/Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program, etc.)
• At least one year of experience teaching group/water exercise classes preferred

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes

• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.

Abilities & Skills

• Ability to conduct classes and activities in and out of the water.
• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Ability to communicate verbally and nonverbally to the participants in the class.
