School Psychologist

The Valley School District exists to improve the lives of children and families. Valley is 40 miles north of Spokane with plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities nearby, such as hiking, fishing, and skiing at 49 Degrees North. The School Psychologist serves all of our district programs, including Valley Early Learning Center, Valley School (K-8), Valley EDGE High School Academy, and Columbia Virtual Academy. The Valley School District provides traditional, innovative, and alternative learning experience (ALE) programs serving students in Valley and throughout Washington, with district enrollment at around 1200 students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct individualized testing, analyze and interpret results, write comprehensive psychoeducational reports used for determining eligibility for special education services. Interpret and share evaluation results/data with parents and others during eligibility meetings and participate in other meetings as needed/requested. Coordinate student placement in special education programs with teachers, principals, parents, Special Education administration, and students when appropriate. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments to determine the need for behavioral programming, facilitate manifestation determination meetings and threat assessments. Provide interventions to develop social skills using evidence-based strategies. Consult with community-based resources to help improve student learning, transition planning, and mental health outcomes. Work directly with children, teachers, administrators, and families to develop individualized, classroom, and school-wide interventions for learning and adjustment from preschool through high school. Participate in the development of student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Positive Support Plans, and behavior plans. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be determined.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate degree in School Psychology from an accredited college or university Must have and maintain a valid ESA certificate through OSPI Training and background in psychometrics, special education law especially IDEA compliance, school-based psychology model, and analysis of behavior Experience as a School Psychologist preferred National Certification (NCSP) preferred

KNOWLEDGE OF

Human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Principles, methods, procedures, and interpretation of diagnostic evaluations. Communicate fluently verbally and in writing.

SKILL IN

Computer usage and ability to use internet software, Microsoft office tools (Outlook, Office 365, Teams), and other psycho-educational assessment programs. IEP Online for managing special education documentation. Virtual psycho-educational assessment

ABILITY TO

Maintain a high level of integrity and commitment. Maintain confidentiality, per FERPA guidelines. Seek to understand different perspectives and effectively engage in conflict resolution. Positively support department and VSD mission, vision, and values.
