Mechanical Design Engineer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a mechanical design engineer to develop and optimize novel instrument and accessory concepts for the Ion endoluminal platform. The role involves early-stage product development, prototyping, design iteration, and cross-functional collaboration to advance medical device solutions from concept through commercialization.

Responsibilities

• Develop, prototype, and optimize mechanical designs for endoluminal instruments and accessories
• Document design progress and justify design decisions to technical teams
• Investigate material, manufacturing, and technology options to enhance products
• Perform tolerance analysis, create detailed drawings, and conduct failure investigations
• Collaborate with suppliers and process engineers on design for manufacturing and technology transfer

Requirements

• 2+ years mechanical design experience; MS or PhD preferred
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• Proficiency with CAD for design creation and documentation
• Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to prototype, iterate designs, and troubleshoot
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self-starting, detail-oriented, with ability to manage multiple priorities
