Associate Pastor

About the Role 1st Street Church is seeking a full-time Associate Pastor to serve alongside our Lead Pastor in shepherding our congregation. The person we're looking for brings three things together: a heart for partnership, a love for people, and a gift for building. It starts with partnership. This is a role for someone who works as part of a team under the Lead Pastor’s leadership toward a shared vision carrying real responsibility to lead the ministries entrusted to you, with the Lead Pastor’s collaboration, support, and accountability. It also calls for a genuine love of people. Relational, day to day pastoral care is central to how we pastor here: sitting one on one with congregants, following up with guests, and responding to those who reach out. We're committed to your own spiritual growth, rest, and sustainability in ministry as well. And it takes a builder. Several of the responsibilities below ask you to help create programs, not just run ones that already exist shaping structure that a young, growing church still needs. What You’ll Do Discipleship Pioneering and Management Discipleship infrastructure: lead discipleship pioneering and then manage the discipleship infrastructure. Small groups: recruit, train, and coach small group leaders. Statement of Faith class: serve as primary teacher for our foundational course on the basics of faith and how to read the Bible well (needs to be built, not just taught). Deep dive Bible study: lead periodic advanced study for those who’ve completed prerequisites (program development required). 1st Street Orientation: help launch and oversee our welcome program for new attendees (content exists; implementation needed). Sunday Services Identify and connect with guests each Sunday, following up afterward. Be available for pastoral conversations with anyone seeking a pastor. Help plan the preaching schedule and preach on a regular rotation. Perform baptisms as opportunities arise. Serve as worship host when needed for welcome, announcements, communion, benediction. Provide emergency coverage as host or preacher when needed. Pastoral Care Meet with individuals seeking pastoral support, prospective members, hospital visits, conflict resolution, and general spiritual care. Provide premarital, couples, grief, and crisis counseling within a short-term model (5‑6 sessions), referring longer-term needs to licensed clinical counselors. Help connect individuals facing hardship with benevolence and crisis assistance. Officiate weddings, funerals, and child dedications. Spiritual Leadership Pursue your own spiritual formation as the foundation you lead from. Model spiritual maturity for the congregation, staff, and volunteers. Help cultivate a healthy, Christ‑centered church culture in partnership with the Lead Pastor. Collaborate with the Lead Pastor on conflict resolution and crisis response. Attend Church Council meetings when invited. Administration & Operations Participate in Sunday service planning and ongoing improvements. Take part in weekly staff and monthly all‑staff meetings. Support volunteer management, outreach events, and facilities or event logistics. Help administer the membership process and maintain records for ordinances and pastoral acts. Contribute to communications systems and provide input on ministry area budgets. Learn and maintain proficiency in the church’s management, communications, and operations platforms.
