About the Role The role of the Medical Assistant is to provide both administrative and clinical support to the clinics. The Medical Assistant must be able to work independently as well as interact as part of a team, consistently demonstrating respect and consideration to fellow staff members. Some duties may vary based on office location and department structure. What You’ll Be Doing Answer incoming phone calls, address patient requests, and schedule appointments as needed. Contact patients for no‑shows and reschedule appointments. Distribute patient records to medical staff and prepare new patient charts. Ensure all medical information is accurate and available for review by proper personnel. Process outgoing patient referrals. Check patients out, discharge them, and collect any necessary copayments. Maintain an adequately stocked supplies inventory and an effective work area. Schedule patient appointments and medical procedures (x‑rays and diagnostic testing) using the EMR system. Obtain surgical and diagnostic insurance authorizations. Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary supplies are available. Clean and restock examination rooms after patient visits. Greet patients in the waiting area promptly, courteously and helpfully and escort them to the appropriate lab or examination room. Assist patients with placing personal belongings and prepare them for their appointment. Place any medications brought by the patient into the patient’s chart. Verify patient’s history before the physician sees the patient. Measure patients’ vital signs (weight, blood pressure, respiration, pulse) and record them in the EMR. Assist the physician with office procedures as a second pair of hands; do not administer medications. Collaborate with RNs and LPNs to provide high‑quality patient care. Maintain knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and complete all required training and in‑services on time. What We Expect from You High school graduate or equivalent. Medical Assistant degree from an accredited vocational institution or a community college course in Medical Assisting. Minimum of one (1) year of experience (preferred). Certified in Medical Assisting (strongly preferred). Willingness to travel to other clinics as needed. Reasoning ability to solve practical problems in less standardized settings. Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions. Proficiency in computer information systems and EMR use. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 10lb routinely, and occasionally up to 25lb. Work Environment This role operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Compensation Hourly range: $17.45 – $20.50 per hour, depending on experience, education and location.
