This role is responsible for administering respiratory therapy care and advanced life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. This position will provide prescribed medical treatment to patients in Acute Care, Med-Surg, ICU, ER, Labor & Delivery, Surgery, and outpatient testing areas. This person will provide patient assessment and planning for optimal patient care utilizing respiratory therapy protocols and best practices. Respiratory Therapist values and communicates with providers as an active member of a multidisciplinary team. Requires a rotating holiday schedule (all shifts) and on-call schedule (night shift only).

Responsibilities:

· Communicate effectively between patient, patient's family, physicians, and other staff members of the healthcare team in evaluation of care to ensure continuity of care.

· Follow physician orders and review patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment and/or procedure such as type and duration of therapy, medication, and dosages.

· Collect, evaluate, analyze, document, and prioritize pertinent patient data using the full range of patient needs: physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, and discharge.

· Demonstrate ability and appropriate technical skills when administering treatments and procedures. Demonstrate competency in Respiratory Therapy duties (i.e. nebulizer treatments, CPT, high-flow oxygen systems, etc.).

· Must maintain competencies in advanced airway management skills (i.e. Ventilator and BiPAP management, airway placement and insertion, resuscitation for neonatal through adult patients, Arterial and Cord Gas draws and analysis).

· Member of the hospital’s Code Blue, Trauma, and OB teams.

· Perform additional cardiopulmonary tasks that include, but are not limited to, the following: Pulmonary Function Testing, EKGs, Holter Monitoring, MCOT/Event Monitoring and Smoking Cessation, and Home Sleep Studies.

· Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy (i.e. pulmonary function calibration).

· Willing to cross train in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation areas as needed.

· Perform daily department charting, billing, prior-authorizations, medical necessity, and chart audit adjustments per hospital standards.

· Monitor and schedule outpatient testing from scheduling work queues.

· Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel (i.e. Respiratory Therapy Students, Nursing Students, and Competency Fairs).

· Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

· Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

· Prefer 1 year of clinical experience, but new graduates considered.

· Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Nebraska.

· Credentialed as a Certified (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

· Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). STABLE certification preferred. If BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, or STABLE are not current upon hire, RT shall participate in classes offered at SRMC within one year of hire.

Full-time night position | Shift hours 1445-0130; on-call 0130-0530 | Night shift RTs work 7 nights on, 7 nights off

Full-time day position | Shift hours 0545-1630 | Day shift RTs work 7 days on, 7 days off
