Safety and Security Supervisor

REPORTS TO : Director of Safety and Security SUPERVISES: Non-certified members of safety and security team POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Safety and Security Supervisor assists the Director of Safety and Security in overseeing all aspects of the Safety Security Department and plays an active role in the everyday safety and security of students, faculty and staff. The Safety and Security Supervisor would assist the Director in providing leadership and oversight for the operations of the department and its staff. Working closely with the Director to ensure that operational and administrative procedures and policies are followed. In addition to assisting the Director in the daily operations of the department with an emphasis on training staff to a professional level of operational readiness Minimum Qualifications Experience in public or educational safety Knowledge of federal and state law as well as village ordinances Working skill in observing situations in an analytical, objective manner High standards of integrity, honesty and accuracy Ability to react quickly yet calmly in stressful situations or emergencies without over-reacting Skill in interacting with students, parents, staff members and members of the community in a firm, courteous, tactful and impartial manner Ability to operate a motor vehicle/valid Illinois Drivers License Required Skills Having excellent written and verbal communication skills. Daily interaction with the Director and Safety Team members and staff, email both internal and external, in person, phone and email interaction with local municipalities, and promoting the District 219 mission. Having investigation skills Ability to read, interpret, and explain materials from Board policy, administrative procedures, professional journals, and legal documents, including Illinois School Code Ability to problem solve, make independent decisions, and effectuate change Good verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated leadership ability to work with high school students and adults Ability to interpret and analyze data, and produce high-quality presentations and documents Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously, tactfully, and with discretion and good judgment Ability to interact effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals Current knowledge of best practices in business, operations, and human resources Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of audiences Ability to maintain and grow current job skills Ability to lead all phases of instructional programs Ability to interpret, analyze, and use data to effectively present information, produce documents at a high level of sophistication, and respond to questions Ability to access and utilize technology to maximize other skills and performance Ability to make rational decisions, problem-solve, and effectuate change in accordance with established policies and procedures Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to successfully carry out the functions and programs of the office Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously and tactfully and maintain composure to keep a respectful environment for students and staff Ability to maintain confidentiality Strong work ethic and aptitude as a self-starter who requires minimal supervision Performance Responsibilities Safety Team Leadership & Personnel Management Maintain liaison with security service providers for recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training Safety Team members on assigned shifts Coach, counsel, discipline, and evaluate safety and security staff Provide training, professional development, and performance evaluation for department staff Work with security service provider supervisors to evaluate personnel Maintain payroll records for District safety team personnel in coordination with the security service provider Complete scheduling, post assignments, and work inspections for safety team members Facilitate duties of the Assistant Director of Safety and Security in their absence Building Security Operations & Supervision Ensure regular building surveillance of exterior areas, grounds, and parking areas Issue parking citations and report concerns to appropriate administrators Provide supervision and security for extracurricular and evening functions Monitor student activity in common areas (cafeteria, study halls, hallways) Assist with management of large school events and athletic contests Maintain strong working relationships with building administration Student & Transportation Safety Support Assist with student locker assignments and combination changes Assist with staff ID program administration Assist with bus evacuation training and drills Assist in monitoring daily bus transportation activities Emergency Preparedness, Response & Safety Planning Develop proactive strategies to promote school safety and reduce incidents Assist in developing event management, emergency response, evacuation, and security plans Develop strategies for handling security incidents and coordinate investigations Design and implement security compliance and awareness education programs Facilitate and conduct mandatory drills in accordance with state requirements Respond to critical incidents and direct personnel to minimize impact Respond to threats, including hostile intruder situations, and determine appropriate actions TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 260 day work calendar with irregular or extended work hours including evenings and weekends. WORKING CONDITIONS : The Safety and Security Supervisor must be able to perform physical tasks associated with maintaining the security and safety of the campus. This includes walking and standing for extended periods while patrolling the school grounds, both indoors and outdoors. The role requires the ability to move quickly in response to emergencies, which may involve climbing stairs, running, or navigating various campus environments. The Safety and Security Supervisor may need to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds as part of daily duties, such as securing equipment or assisting in setting up security devices. The job also demands the ability to remain alert and attentive to various physical environments, including monitoring surveillance systems and conducting visual inspections of the school grounds. Occasional physical exertion may be required during emergency situations or when responding to incidents. The Safety and Security Supervisor must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, or rain, while ensuring the safety of the campus. SALARY RANGE : Target hiring range for this position will be between 80,000 to 90,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
