Full Time | Hybrid Location: Chicago, IL (flexible if a good fit) Compensation: Flexible based on experience About Corgi Corgi is a full-stack insurance carrier building better, faster insurance products from the ground up. We design, underwrite, price, and issue policies directly, with fewer handoffs and less friction. Insurance remains one of the largest unautomated areas of financial services, and we are rebuilding it using AI. We are expanding our Life and Health (L&H) and employee-benefits capabilities. We need an actuary who can build the work, explain it clearly, defend it before regulators, and sign the opinions for which they are qualified. About the Role We are hiring a credentialed L&H actuary to own core actuarial work across our employee-benefits and supplemental insurance business. This is a hands‑on role spanning pricing, reserving (estimating liabilities for future claims), valuation, product development, regulatory support, reinsurance (sharing risk with another insurer), and actuarial opinions. You will work directly with underwriting, product, finance, legal, compliance, engineering, and state insurance regulators. We are looking for someone who can move from a product concept to filed actuarial support, and from experience analysis to a signed opinion, without handing the work through layers. This is not a maintenance role. You will help build the L&H actuarial function, set its standards, and create durable models, methods, and controls. What You'll Do Serve, where assigned, as the appointed actuary, the actuary formally designated to issue required opinions, for Corgi L&H entities. Prepare and sign statements of actuarial opinion, formal signed assessments required by law, regulation, or professional standards, plus related actuarial memoranda, certifications, and filing support for which you are qualified. Own pricing, reserving, valuation, experience studies, recommended premium changes, profitability analyses, and actuarial assumption governance. Develop actuarial support for individual and group product launches, regulatory filings, and market expansions. Evaluate employee-benefit and supplemental products, including group life, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D), disability, accident, hospital indemnity, specified disease and critical illness, dental, vision, and related riders. Build and review models for premiums, claims, reserves, commissions, expenses, capital, and reinsurance. Perform asset adequacy analysis, which tests whether supporting assets can meet policy obligations across relevant scenarios, when required by an assigned opinion. Partner with product and underwriting to translate actuarial assumptions into product design, underwriting rules, and launch decisions. Work with finance and insurance‑regulatory reporting teams on reserve adequacy, annual statement support, capital planning, and experience monitoring. Work directly with state insurance regulators and respond to actuarial questions related to filings, financial examinations, and product approvals. Establish documented, auditable actuarial methods, controls, and data standards as Corgi scales the function. Present actuarial results and recommendations clearly to leadership and the board. Who You Are You hold an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation and are a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), all in good standing. You currently satisfy the U.S. Qualification Standards (USQS) for each life and health statement of actuarial opinion within the role's scope, including applicable education, experience, and continuing education requirements, and can document that qualification. You have substantial hands‑on experience with employee‑benefits, supplemental health, life, or accident and health products. You have personally prepared or signed actuarial opinions, memoranda, certifications, or rate‑filing support. You understand U.S. insurance‑regulatory accounting and valuation, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) annual statement, relevant actuarial standards of practice, and state‑specific requirements. You can work across both individual and group products. You can explain methods, assumptions, limitations, and results clearly to regulators and non‑actuaries. You are comfortable owning the work directly. You will have cross‑functional resources, but you are accountable for the actuarial conclusion. You move quickly, exercise sound judgment, and build systems that others can audit and reuse. Nice to Have Current or recent experience at Aflac, or at a comparable supplemental health, voluntary benefits, group benefits, or L&H carrier. Experience serving as an appointed actuary for a life or health insurer. Multi‑state product‑filing and regulator‑facing experience. Experience with reinsurance pricing, capital modeling, or asset and liability management. Fluency with Python, R, SQL, or modern actuarial modeling tools. Experience building an actuarial function or a new product portfolio in a high‑growth environment. Why Corgi Ground Floor Ownership.
