Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations and Company policies and procedures. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. For PTCB or ExCPT certified individuals, coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers. Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Customer Experience Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving customer issues, and answering questions to ensure a positive experience. Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits such as proactive help, need identification, and sustained satisfaction. Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers. Operations Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, reviewing and complying with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medication, and checking for interactions. Report prescription errors promptly to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. Adhere strictly to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities. Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, handle cash, and take customers to the OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products. Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians. Process, correct, and resubmit manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently, and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. Assist the Pharmacy Department with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs. Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples and coordinating services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers. Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups. Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly. Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned. Training & Personal Development Earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration. Attend training, complete PPLs requested by Manager, and acquire continuing education credits to maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy. Basic Qualifications Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment. Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens. Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling. Prefer good computer skills. Prefer knowledge of store inventory control. Prefer PTCB or ExCPT certification. We will consider employment of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
