Lead Barista

The lead barista is a senior coffee professional who crafts premium beverages, delivers exceptional customer service, and supports café management. They train and mentor staff, maintain equipment, and oversee daily operations like inventory and shift coverage to ensure a high-quality, welcoming environment. Responsibilities: • Quality & Preparation: Dial in espresso, pull precise shots, and steam milk to strict café standards. Regularly taste-test beverages to maintain consistency. • Team Leadership: Train, coach, and mentor junior baristas. Create SOP binders with drink recipes, opening/closing duties, and cleaning schedules. • Customer Service: Lead by example with warm, attentive service, and handle customer escalations or feedback professionally. • Inventory & Ordering: Track stock, monitor expiration dates, and communicate ingredient or supply needs to management. • Operations: Manage opening/closing duties, secure cash drawers, verify shift coverage, and ensure strict adherence to health and food safety protocols. Qualifications: • Experience: 1–3 years of specialty coffee experience, often including previous supervisory or lead roles. • Coffee Knowledge: Deep understanding of extraction basics, milk science, brewing methods, and equipment maintenance. • Soft Skills: Strong communication, a heart for hospitality, and the ability to remain calm and efficient during busy rushes. • Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift 30–50 pounds, and work flexible shifts (early mornings, weekends, holidays).
