Position Specific Details - Instructors needed for the following course: HLH123 Concepts of Patient Care. The HLH123 instructor is responsible for delivering organized, student-centered theory and skills instruction, preparing students to safely perform basic nursing fundamentals with supporting theoretical understanding, and supervising skills practice using safe technique, timely feedback, and competency-based departmental evaluations. Class time 0830-1550 on Monday or Wednesday for the entire session.

Summary Statement - An incumbent is responsible for developing and improving curricula, instructing assigned courses consistent with syllabi, evaluating student learning, and fostering student success.

Nature and Scope - An incumbent in this class typically reports to the Dean of Instruction through an Instructional Director, Department Chairperson or Program Coordinator. An incumbent is expected to plan, organize, and instruct in a manner to promote and direct successful student learning in keeping with the College's values and goals.

Principal Accountabilities - An incumbent may perform any combination of the below listed accountabilities as determined by the supervisor:

• Plans, organizes, and instructs courses as assigned by the Department Chairperson/supervisor, utilizing effective and engaging instructional strategies, the learning management system (LMS), appropriate communication, classroom management, leadership skills, and instructional/educational technology to promote student success. Normal teaching contact hours per week are 18, unless otherwise modified by the Department Chairperson/Dean.
• Demonstrates best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students' diverse academic needs.
• Uses instructional technology including multimedia to meet students' learning needs and achieve the objectives of the academic program/College.
• Assists or leads in planning and/or developing new curriculum and courses, as assigned by the Department Chairperson/Dean. Evaluates and revises existing curriculum and courses as part of the annual course evaluation process and/or as assigned. Contributes to program review.
• Participates in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
• Serves as an advisor for students, utilizing effective advisement strategies, the Student Educational Plan and other advisement tools to promote student retention and progression.
• Assists students toward the successful completion of course(s) which the instructor is teaching by providing outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved forms of academic support.
• Makes oneself accessible and available to assist students. Provides a minimum of six (6) posted office hours per week to students.
• Maintains adequate and timely student records (e.g. grades are posted in the LMS in a timely fashion). Evaluates and reports students' progress and attendance in a timely manner.
• Works as a team member with other faculty and staff to facilitate College and academic program operations and achieve goals and objectives. Provides guidance to new and adjunct faculty as assigned.
• Assists in attaining and maintaining program accreditation.
• Completes the New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) during the one-year probationary period to ensure understanding of the College's mission and preparation to instruct students with various learning styles and academic needs. Completes the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or can demonstrate mastery of its competencies.
• Continues professional development/growth and a commitment to continuous improvement as an instructor. Remains current within his/her academic field/discipline.
• Participates in departmental/campus/College meetings and serves on campus or collegewide committees. Participates in advisory committee meetings and other college and student-related activities. Advises student clubs and organizations as assigned.
• Participates in developing and implementing college policies, objectives, and/or functions in accordance with the philosophy of the College. Areas include, but are not limited to: departmental program planning, marketing, budget development, and public relations.
• Assists in providing support for operations/events/processes to enhance recruitment, enrollment/registration, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment, as assigned.
• Participates in day, evening, and weekend program staffing, as requested.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications - Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Four (4) years of relevant work experience in nursing. Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Delaware or compact state at time of application and during employment in this position; demonstrated knowledge of subject matter in areas of nursing, teaching methods, clinical skills, and nursing protocol; ability to communicate subject matter in a diverse population; ability to function in clinical setting without limitation. Must be able to meet the essential functions as outlined for a clinical faculty member.

Ability to use senses Visual acuity with corrective lenses to identify color changes in skin, respiratory movements in clients, read fine print/writing on physicians orders, monitors, equipment calibrations, measure medications in syringes, IVs, etc. Hearing ability with auditory aides to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals, call bells, telephone orders; to hear blood pressure, heart, lung, and abdominal sounds with a stethoscope; to understand a normal speaking voice without viewing the speaker's face. Motor Ability Physical ability to walk long distances, to stand for prolong periods, to lift, move, and transfer patients, equipment of 50 lbs. or more, to maneuver in limited space, to perform CPR, to provide routine and emergency patient care, to have manual dexterity and feeling ability of hands to insert tubes, prepare medications, and perform technical skills. Ability to Communicate Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form through interaction with clients, family, and health care members; to write clearly and correctly on client's record for legal documentation. Ability to Problem-Solve Intellectual and conceptual ability for measuring, calculating, reasoning, analyzing, prioritizing, and synthesizing data. Ability to Maintain Emotional Stability Ability to function safely under stress and adapt to changing clinical and client situations.
