JOB TITLE: Night Custodian
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
CONTRACT STATUS: Full-time/12-month contract

SUMMARY: Provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : these statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

Daily Assignments:

1. Empty all trash-replace liners as needed.
2. Replace biohazard red liners daily.
3. Empty pencil sharpeners.
4. Check lights and replace any non-functioning bulbs. Turn off all lights in classrooms, hallways, break rooms, etc., using lights only in room cleaning.
5. Dust counter tops, windowsills, desks, tables computers, lockers, etc.
6. Rooms with sinks and countertops must be cleaned nightly and checked for soap and paper towels in dispensers.
7. Secure all doors and windows.
8. Spot clean carpets.
9. Vacuum all classrooms, offices, break and work rooms.
10. Clean all glass and drinking fountains in your area.
11. Pick up trash outside.
12. Restrooms-Clean mirrors, stools, stalls, sinks, counter tops, and mop floors with disinfectant cleaner. Refill all soap and paper towel dispensers.
13. Set back thermostats.
14. Assists with special projects.
15. All other duties as assigned by Principal or Supervisor.

Weekly Assignments:

1. Clean chalkboards, white boards and trays-on assigned days.
2. Clean erasers.
3. Clean baseboards.
4. Clean air vents.
5. Clean storage, custodial, and mechanical rooms.

Monthly Assignments:

1. Check fire extinguishers in your area.
2. Clean light fixtures.
3. All duties assigned by Principal or Supervisor.

Annual Assignments:

1. Summer-Work with assigned crews: removing and laying carpets, removing and laying tile, sanding and refinishing gym floors, painting and light carpentry, moving of furniture, operating a power washer, and general grounds responsibilities including cutting grass, landscaping, and similar tasks.
2. Winter-Spreading Ice Melt, shoveling and removal of snow from sidewalks and parking lots, sanding and refinishing floors, removing and laying carpets, painting and light carpentry, and moving of furniture.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

1. High School diploma or GED equivalent
2. Two (2) years of general or related experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrating communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, and team members. Ability to work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret general written instructions in English language. Ability to effectively communicate with supervisor, school personnel, and co-workers.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver's license in good standing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
