Physician-Scientist – Microbiome/Mucosal Immunology Gastroenterologist

The University of Utah invites applications for a new tenure‑track physician‑scientist faculty position in the Division of Gastroenterology within the Department of Internal Medicine. This role focuses on microbiota‑immune interactions, mucosal immune pathways, dietary interactions with the microbiota, microbial metagenomics, metabolism or ecology in disease states such as inflammatory bowel disease, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and irritable bowel syndrome.

• Establish and maintain an independent translational research program that is innovative, rigorous, and complementary to the University’s clinical program.
• Integrate seamlessly into the clinical practice of gastroenterology and internal medicine, contributing to patient care and resident/faculty education.
• Lead a translational or clinical research program that aligns with GI and Internal Medicine goals, including collaborations with the MAGIC Center for microbiota and mucosal research and the MAGIC Biobank.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: MD or DO degree; board‑certified in Gastroenterology and eligible for a Utah Medical License.

Preferred Qualifications: History of NIH or equivalent funding in microbiota, mucosal immunology, or related areas; experience with translational research; capacity to secure national funding and collaborate across multiple departments.
