Job Requirements – MRI Technologist (Nights)

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Licensure & Certifications:

• BLS (AHA) – required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
• One of the following MRI credentials is required:
• ARRT (MR) – Magnetic Resonance Imaging
• ARRT (R) with MRI competency
• ARMRIT – American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists

Experience:

• Less than 1 year of MRI experience required
• Experience performing MRI exams on both ambulatory and inpatient populations preferred
• Familiarity with MRI safety standards, contrast administration protocols, and image quality assurance

Technical & Professional Skills:

• Ability to operate MRI equipment and follow established imaging protocols
• Knowledge of MRI safety, including screening and emergency procedures
• Strong patient care and communication skills, especially for overnight shifts
• Ability to work independently during night hours under radiologist supervision

Unit Details:

MRI procedures are performed following established imaging protocols and safety guidelines. Responsibilities include completing MRI safety screenings, preparing and positioning patients, operating MRI scanners, and monitoring patients throughout exams. The technologist ensures proper image quality before submission to the radiologist, maintains equipment readiness, and follows infection control and documentation standards. BLS protocols are followed for patient emergencies, and all procedures comply with regulatory and departmental policies.

Unit Description:

The MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures on inpatient and outpatient populations under the general supervision of a Radiologist. This role is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. The technologist ensures patient safety, proper positioning, and comfort while adhering to MRI safety standards. Duties include patient screening, operation of MRI equipment, image review, documentation, and collaboration with radiologists and healthcare team members. The position supports accurate diagnosis of disease and injury in a fast-paced hospital MRI department during overnight shifts.
