Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. This role requires evaluating patients and recommending appropriate treatment plans, as well as explaining the purpose and procedures of treatments and equipment to patients, ensuring they receive necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments operating various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning of patients by various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy, conducting routine reviews of patients' chest x-rays and pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with procedures related to respiratory care, such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Deliver adequate drainage of chest via PleurX catheter and perform tracheostomy care.
• Conduct arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency while recording results.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and self-test all ventilatory equipment and maintain mechanical ventilation.
• Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency and ensure accurate documentation.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging, including data entry and correction of errors.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Candidates must possess a valid professional license as a Respiratory Therapist and relevant certifications in BLS and ACLS.
