Job Details Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP) Location: 19th Road, Arlington, VA 22207 Type: Full Time – 40+ Hours Shift: Overnight Travel: Up to 25% Salary: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour Education: High School Diploma (GED or IEP acceptable) Benefits: 12‑month benefits provided Responsibilities Provide support to individuals to meet needs identified by the Inter‑Disciplinary Team (IDT). Communicate with families, IDT members, day program staff, and other service providers as needed. Assist with household tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, and food shopping. Teach and encourage development of daily living skills, addressing social, environmental, and health care needs. Support personal care routines and daily grooming. Implement Non‑Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques per the person’s Behavior Support Plan and Individual Service Plan (ISP). Respond to emergency medical situations as trained. Provide crisis intervention and assistance when required. Plan, coordinate, and participate in social activities and community outings. Transport individuals or provide mobility training for appointments, rehabilitation programs, and shopping. Document activities and behaviors using designated files, data sheets, log books, and electronic records. Prepare food according to menus, protocols, and dietary restrictions. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, house meetings, and program meetings as directed. Ensure compliance with VOAC program requirements, environment‑specific rules, and monitoring entity regulations. Inspect home/program environments and report repairs or maintenance needs. Participate in routine fire and emergency drills, ensuring safety procedures are followed. Maintain proper sanitation and security in the home/program setting. Notify supervisors and monitor visitor activities. Stay current with VOAC policies, procedures, and mandated reporting responsibilities. Qualifications Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or IEP. At least one year of experience in intellectual/developmental services; partial experience may be considered with enhanced supervision until the year is completed. Medication Administration Certification preferred and may be required after the introductory period. Must pass all state‑required trainings, new‑hire orientation, and maintain current certifications per CMS or other governmental entities. Computer proficiency for documentation. Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills. Problem‑solving ability. Pass local and state background checks and drug testing. Bilingual proficiency is an advantage. Preferred Qualifications Experience in residential settings serving individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities or other special needs populations such as rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, or behavioral health settings. Experience working with medically fragile individuals or those with physical limitations. Physical Requirements Operate a motor vehicle to transport self, individuals, and program supplies. Operate office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movement. Remain seated for extended periods. Travel to assigned locations; stand, stoop, bend, reach, pull, push, lift, grasp, climb, talk, see, hear, and perform basic light home maintenance and office tasks. Lift light objects up to 30 pounds (e.g., mail, supplies, files). Transfer, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects as needed. Lift, transfer, and carry a person served during routine assistance or emergency situations. Effect on End Result Ensure identified needs of served individuals are met and satisfaction is achieved.
