District Coordinator

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Senator and the Chief of Staff, the District Coordinator serves as the supervisor and senior leader of district office operations and community engagement efforts. The District Coordinator supervises district office staff; establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with staff; oversees the Senator's schedule in the district; and works collaboratively with Capitol staff to ensure alignment between district priorities, constituent engagement, legislative efforts, and communications strategy.


The District Coordinator communicates effectively and works cooperatively with elected officials, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, business groups, educational institutions, and stakeholders throughout the district. The position develops proactive district engagement strategies, oversees constituent services and district programming, and helps identify emerging community trends, opportunities, and challenges relevant to the Senator's work.
The District Coordinator is expected to foster a culture of professionalism, innovation, responsiveness, collaboration, accountability, and excellent constituent service while helping strengthen coordination and information sharing across the office.



DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Senator and the Chief of Staff, the District Coordinator will work jointly with the Capitol Chief of Staff to ensure that the Senator's goals and objectives for the district are being carried out and addressed appropriately, in addition to supervising the operation of the Senator's district office. The District Coordinator will represent or staff the Senator at meetings, events, and functions with constituents, community organizations, local governments, and stakeholders, as well as perform other duties as assigned.
Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; respond to various types of correspondence; work effectively under pressure while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude; deliver excellent customer service; and operate effectively in a fast paced and evolving environment.


The District Coordinator develops district office protocols and procedures and helps establish a district office culture centered around excellence, collaboration, responsiveness, innovation, and respect. The position is responsible for building and maintaining constructive relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders; organizing and structuring employee duties and workload; supervising staff; communicating clearly and effectively; designing, managing, and evaluating district programs and outreach efforts; and maintaining a cooperative and effective working relationship with staff and the Member.
The District Coordinator will also help:

• develop systems that improve office efficiency, collaboration, and institutional knowledge sharing
• encourage innovative and solutions oriented approaches to constituent engagement and district operations
• establish performance oriented practices that improve responsiveness and constituent experience
• utilize feedback, metrics, and data informed approaches to evaluate district office effectiveness and community engagement efforts
• strengthen communication and coordination between the Capitol and District Offices
• identify opportunities for partnership development, outreach, and strategic community engagement

DESIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the particular legislative district, the legislative process, as well as the structure and policies of state government; effective coalition building; application of social capital and asset based community development; public relations; constituent services; modern communication and collaboration platforms; basic office computer applications and social media platforms; and the Senate's personnel rules, policies, and best practices regarding staff supervision, sexual harassment, and Equal Employment Opportunities.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required. At least four (4) years relevant experience required. At least two (2) years supervisory experience required. Legislative experience preferred. Please include verification of your degree with your completed application.


Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times. NOTE: Information from your driving record will be shared with the hiring supervisor which may impact your hiring status.

LOCATION, HOURS, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Menlo Park, CA and requires in person attendance .
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours, holiday, or weekend work.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
