Job Details Job ID: 5668615 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Starting Date: Immediately Pay Grade: AU01 Minimum Salary: $15.00 per hour Mid-Point Salary: $18.00 per hour Type of Assignment: Non-exempt Contract Status: At-Will Position Summary The SPED Student Support Provider ensures the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned bus routes and at designated locations. The role assists the bus driver in maintaining a secure, respectful, and calm environment by monitoring student behavior, enforcing bus safety rules, and addressing issues promptly and appropriately. Supports students as they board and exit the bus, with special attention to younger students and those requiring additional assistance. Maintains accurate awareness of student attendance, seating arrangements, and special needs. Communicates effectively with the bus driver, school staff, and transportation supervisors regarding student conduct, safety concerns, or route-related issues. Minimum Requirements Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years of work-related experience with children or in a school setting. Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certification in accordance with district and state requirements. Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ride buses and help driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment. Ability to manage student behavior. Ability to work well with children with disabilities. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Proficient map reading skills. Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs, including lifting and carrying students with disabilities. Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street following established safety procedures. Escort students into the building and deliver to their assigned destination. Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations. Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Manage student behavior and report discipline problems to appropriate administrators. Communicate with teachers and parents regarding student behavior while on bus. Complete and maintain accurate, updated, timely records and reports including route sheet and daily non-notification forms. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures; ensure seat belts, harnesses, or car seats are used correctly and help students use safety devices. Follow emergency procedures including evacuation of students and assist driver to administer first aid if necessary. Perform other duties such as lifting, assisting students, assist drivers keep buses clean, perform pre- and post-trip inspections. Maintain daily attendance and punctuality. Stay informed of and comply with federal, state, and district policies, including laws and school board rules. Maintain confidentiality. Working Conditions Tools and equipment used: two‑way radio, PTT phone, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs, fire extinguisher), and specialized/adaptive equipment for students. Posture involves prolonged sitting; frequent standing, twisting, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Motion includes walking, climbing stairs, grasping, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching. Lifting heavy objects (45 pounds or more) and repositioning students or equipment. Environment includes exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, sun, vehicle fumes, noise, and biological hazards. Work may involve irregular or prolonged hours. Mental demands: work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise students during boarding, exiting, and crossing streets. Maintain discipline and implement effective behavior management for groups of students. Report disciplinary issues to administrators and communicate with teachers and parents as necessary. Verify that students are received by the designated staff member upon drop‑off.
