Sunshine Pediatric Day Center is a licensed Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC) operating multiple locations across Texas. We provide medically complex pediatric patients with skilled nursing care, therapeutic services, and a nurturing day environment — giving families the support they need while ensuring their children receive exceptional clinical care. Our North Texas footprint includes sites in Dallas, DeSoto, Fort Worth, and Rowlett.

Position Overview

The Regional Director of Nursing (RDON) — North Texas provides clinical and operational nursing leadership across all North Texas PPECC sites. This is a senior-level, multi-site leadership role responsible for nursing quality, regulatory compliance, staff development, and ensuring consistent delivery of safe, high-quality care for our medically and technologically dependent pediatric population. The RDON serves as the clinical authority across the region and partners directly with site Administrators and the CEO to drive performance.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Quality

• Provide clinical oversight and leadership to Directors of Nursing at Dallas, DeSoto, Fort Worth, and Rowlett locations.
• Establish and monitor regional nursing quality metrics; lead QAPI (Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement) initiatives across sites.
• Ensure all nursing practices comply with 26 TAC Chapter 550 (Texas PPECC regulations), the Texas Nursing Practice Act, HIPAA, and applicable federal/state standards.
• Conduct regular site visits to evaluate clinical operations, patient acuity, and nursing care delivery.
• Lead clinical investigations, incident reviews, and corrective action plans as needed.
• Serve as the regional clinical resource for complex patient cases involving tracheostomy, mechanical ventilation, G-tube/J-tube, seizure management, and other medically complex needs.

Compliance & Regulatory

• Maintain regional readiness for HHSC surveys and unannounced inspections; lead survey response efforts across North Texas sites.
• Ensure each site maintains current nursing staffing ratios, staff credentials, and documentation standards per PPECC licensure requirements.
• Review and approve site-level nursing policies and procedures to ensure regional consistency and regulatory alignment.
• Track and report on compliance indicators to the CEO; escalate critical issues with corrective plans.

Team Development & Staffing

• Recruit, interview, and onboard site Directors of Nursing; participate in clinical staff hiring as needed.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to site DONs; conduct formal performance evaluations.
• Identify training gaps and partner with Clinical Educator (Wendi Johnston) to deploy in-service education across the region.
• Support workforce planning, scheduling strategy, and contingency staffing across North Texas sites.
• Foster a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and family-centered care.

Operational Partnership

• Collaborate closely with the North Texas Regional Administrator (Lindsay Black) on site operations, census management, and patient/family escalations.
• Partner with site Administrators to align clinical and operational priorities; participate in regional leadership meetings.
• Monitor Average Daily Census (ADC) trends and support census-building efforts through clinical excellence and family satisfaction.
• Contribute to policy development, strategic planning, and new site readiness efforts as the organization grows.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
• Minimum 3 years of nursing leadership/management experience (DON, Assistant DON, Charge RN, or equivalent supervisory role).
• Minimum 2 years of pediatric clinical experience; PPECC, pediatric long-term care, or pediatric home health experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with medically complex patients including trach/vent, G-tube, seizure disorders, and technology-dependent care.
• Solid working knowledge of 26 TAC Chapter 550 or comparable state PPECC/pediatric LTC regulations.
• Current BLS/CPR certification; PALS preferred.
• Ability to travel regularly between North Texas sites (Dallas, DeSoto, Fort Worth, Rowlett).

Preferred Qualifications

• Multi-site or regional nursing leadership experience.
• Experience managing or developing Directors of Nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
• Experience with HHSC survey preparation and regulatory response in a PPECC or pediatric LTC environment.
• Proficiency with EHR systems and clinical documentation platforms.
