Programs are open to people of all ages and backgrounds.The Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia seeks a skilled Building Superintendent to support the safety, functionality, and day-to-day upkeep of a large, multi-use community facility. This hands-on role is responsible for the daily maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of the building, serving as the first point of contact for facility issues such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC-related concerns, and general building repairs.The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and skilled in a variety of building trades. They are comfortable responding to urgent maintenance needs, completing routine and preventive maintenance tasks, and working collaboratively with operations staff and external vendors to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, staff, and visitors.QualificationsRequiredHigh School Diploma or equivalent3–5 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities support, or a related tradeWorking knowledge of general building maintenance, including:Basic plumbing (leaks, clogs, fixture replacement)Basic electrical work (lighting, outlets, switches; non-licensed work)Carpentry and general repairs (doors, hardware, furniture, wall repair)Painting and patchingAbility to safely use hand and power toolsAbility to respond to urgent maintenance issues in a timely and professional mannerStrong attention to safety and ability to follow established proceduresDependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, vendors, and the publicValid driver's license required, with a satisfactory driving record as determined by a motor vehicle record (MVR) and the ability to be covered by company insurance are requiredPreferredExperience working in a community center, school, nonprofit, healthcare, or other public-use facilityFamiliarity with HVAC systems and basic troubleshooting (certification not required)Experience with preventive maintenance programsBasic computer skills, including the ability to use maintenance or work-order softwareVocational training, trade school coursework, or relevant certificationsPhysical & Work RequirementsAbility to lift and carry up to 50 poundsAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spacesAbility to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperaturesAvailability to work evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts as requiredEssential Position DutiesMaintenance & RepairsPerform general maintenance and repair work including basic plumbing, electrical, lighting, carpentry, painting, and patching.Troubleshoot facility issues and complete repairs in a timely and safe manner.Conduct routine inspections of building systems and equipment to identify maintenance needs.Assist with preventative maintenance tasks to reduce equipment failure and facility downtime.Set up and break down rooms, furniture, and equipment for events or daily operations as needed.Safety & ComplianceFollow all safety procedures and use tools and equipment properly.Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or building hazards.Assist with emergency maintenance response related to power, water, HVAC, or facility systems.Comply with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.Cleaning & Facility SupportSupport Facilities Services Associates as needed with basic cleaning and custodial dutiesSupport cleanliness and presentation standards throughout the facility.Respond to spills, sanitation needs, or urgent cleaning requests to ensure safety and comfort if necessaryCommunication & DocumentationRespond to maintenance requests professionally and in a customer-service-oriented manner.Communicate completed work, outstanding issues, and material needs to supervisors.Maintain basic maintenance logs, work orders, or service records as required.Coordinate with outside vendors or contractors under the direction of management.General ResponsibilitiesMaintain tools, equipment, and maintenance areas in clean and working condition.Support other operational or facilities tasks as assigned.Work collaboratively with facilities, operations, and custodial staff.Work Schedule40 hours per week, Monday–FridayEvenings and weekends as required for emergencies, projects, or operational needsThis position description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
