Dixon Family Ymca in Dixon, IL is looking for one youth sports official to join our 94-person strong team. We are located on 110 N. Galena Avenue. Our ideal candidate is attentive, ambitious, and hard-working.
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct supervision of youth sports games. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Perform the specific functions of the job as required as listed below. 2. Understand the "Rules that Govern YMCA Competitive Sports" which are based on fair play. 3. Build relationships with people: members, staff, and volunteers, and serve as an ambassador for the sport of basketball. 4. Teach and demonstrate the four values caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. 5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. 6. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. 7. The primary function of this position is to officiate and direct fair and safe basketball games throughout the season. Must have a good understanding of Basketball rules set by the IHSA. All YMCA staff must hold current Adult, Infant & Child CPR/AED, and First Aid training. All staff is responsible for preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations and potential dangers before they happen and conveying a positive YMCA image through their performance and appearance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age. Certified by IHSA a plus. 2. Previous experience playing basketball, soccer or refereeing. 3. Ensuring the care, safety, and well-being of all players on the court/field. 4. Being knowledgeable of the rules of Basketball, Soccer and enforcing those rules. 5. Demonstrating, verbally and by role modeling sound basketball knowledge and good sportsmanship practices. 6. Help promote the basketball, soccer program in schools and throughout the community. 7. wear respectable clothing and equipment while on duty. 8. Inspecting and identifying each participant has the proper equipment. 9. Any other assigned task is given by the Director of the program. 10. Maintain ongoing communication with the Sports Director. 11. Conduct yourself as a professional and model proper behavior at all times. 12. Setting up the soccer field to meet the needs of the program. 13. Participating in staff meetings and ongoing training. 14. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date. 15. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to run up and down the basketball court/field. Work Hours This is a part-time position with a schedule of hours set and agreed upon between the YMCA supervisor and the employee. With the exception of seasonal employees, the scheduled hours for all YMCA part-time positions will not exceed 8-10 hours/week.
