The Facilities Utility Worker position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities for students, staff, and visitors of the college. This position performs a variety of maintenance and utility duties to ensure high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and facility upkeep. The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and customer service. This position may work independently or as part of a team and may be assigned to different shifts and locations as needed.Characteristic Duties and ResponsibilitiesBuilding Maintenance:Report building maintenance issues and safety concernsPerform basic maintenance tasks as assignedAssist with furniture moving and room setupsRemove snow and ice from walkways during winter monthsMaintain exterior areas including sweeping and trash removalReplace light bulbs and perform basic lighting maintenanceClean entrance mats and runnersAssist with preventive maintenance tasksSafety and Security:Follow all safety protocols and proceduresUse personal protective equipment as requiredMaintain clean and safe work areasReport safety hazards and concernsSecure buildings and rooms as assignedMonitor building security during shiftsRespond to emergency cleaning situationsParticipate in safety training programsSpecial Projects:Assist with deep cleaning projectsSupport event setup and teardownPerform floor care including stripping and waxingHelp with painting and touch-up workParticipate in seasonal cleaning projectsSupport renovation and moving projectsAssist with grounds maintenance as neededComplete special cleaning requestsDocumentation and Communication:Complete cleaning checklists and logsReport supply needs and inventoryDocument maintenance issuesCommunicate with supervisor about work progressRespond to work orders and requestsMaintain accurate records of tasks completedReport accidents or incidents promptlyParticipate in team meetings and trainingMinimum QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and techniquesUnderstanding of safety protocols and proceduresAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsStrong attention to detailGood time management skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamBasic mechanical aptitudeGood customer service skillsEffective communication abilitiesEducational and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 1 year custodial or related experienceValid driver's license and good driving recordPhysical ability to perform essential job functionsAvailable to work assigned shiftBasic computer skills for email and work ordersExperience with cleaning equipment and chemicalsSupplemental InformationThe Utility Worker position works second shift - 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and supports the WCTC's Facilities department and has an anticipated start date on or before November 1, 2026.
