Environmental, Health and Safety Technician – Fire & Life Safety Compliance Management International (CMI) Location: Charlotte, NC Status: Full-Time | Onsite Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Position Summary Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced EHS Technical Resource to provide onsite environmental, health, safety, and fire/life safety support for a multi-campus environment in the Charlotte, NC. Fire and life safety experience is essential for this position. Candidates must have demonstrated hands-on experience conducting fire and life safety inspections, identifying hazards and code deficiencies, documenting findings, and supporting corrective actions. The successful candidate must also have excellent technical and organizational skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and electronic safety, inspection, and reporting systems. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can independently manage multiple projects, priorities, corrective actions, and deadlines. A college degree is not required. Relevant hands-on experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated competency are highly valued. Conduct routine and risk-based fire, life safety, building, laboratory, and EHS inspections across multiple campus locations. Inspect exits and means of egress, fire doors, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, combustible storage, electrical conditions, emergency equipment, and other observable fire and life safety conditions. Support fire drills, fire marshal and regulatory inspections, facility readiness reviews, pre-inspection walkthroughs, and post-inspection corrective actions. Identify and clearly document hazards, deficiencies, photographs, corrective actions, responsible parties, priority levels, due dates, and closure evidence. Track corrective actions through completion and elevate immediate, recurring, overdue, or unresolved safety concerns. Support laboratory safety, chemical safety, hazardous waste, PPE, indoor air quality, environmental testing, emergency preparedness, and incident investigations as assigned. Prepare accurate inspection reports, Excel spreadsheets, trend analyses, dashboards, and management-ready summaries. Maintain accurate records using electronic inspection, work-order, corrective-action, and other safety management systems. Communicate professionally and coordinate corrective actions with Facilities, Security, campus departments, contractors, and other stakeholders. Independently manage assigned projects, inspections, follow-up activities, and deadlines. Travel between campus locations as required. A company vehicle will be provided for work-related travel once onsite. Essential Qualifications Demonstrated hands-on fire and life safety inspection or compliance experience. Practical knowledge of fire prevention, life safety requirements, NFPA standards, and applicable fire and building safety requirements. Experience identifying hazards and deficiencies, documenting inspection findings, and tracking corrective actions to completion. Strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to effectively use electronic safety, inspection, corrective-action, work-order, and reporting systems. Excellent attention to detail and ability to prepare clear, accurate, and professional technical documentation. Strong time management, organization, and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines. Ability to work independently in the field while effectively communicating with management and client stakeholders. Strong professional communication and customer-service skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between campus locations. A college degree is not required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with North Carolina fire and building codes and applicable NFPA standards. Experience supporting fire marshal or building official inspections, readiness reviews, and corrective-action programs. Experience conducting fire/life safety inspections in higher education, healthcare, institutional, commercial, or other multi-building environments. Experience developing inspection checklists, analyzing compliance trends, and preparing management reports. Advanced experience with Excel, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Lists, Planner, Power Automate, Power BI, or comparable safety management and reporting platforms. Relevant credentials such as Certified Fire Inspector (CFI), OSHA 30, ASP, CSP, building inspector, fire prevention, or comparable fire/life safety or occupational safety training are preferred but not required. Physical & Travel Requirements A valid driver’s license is required as regular travel between campus locations is necessary during the workday. A company vehicle will be provided for required work-related travel once onsite. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, climb stairs or ladders, and access laboratories, mechanical areas, shops, storage areas, and other operational spaces. Must be able to wear required PPE, safely work around controlled workplace hazards, and occasionally lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
