The Radiologic Health Branch (RHB) is within the Division of Radiation Safety & Environmental Management of the Department of Public Health. The Branch enforces the laws and regulations designed to protect the public, radiation workers, and the environment. RHB is responsible for providing public health functions associated with administering a radiation control program. This includes licensing of radioactive materials, registration of X-ray-producing machines, certification of medical and industrial X-ray and radioactive material users, inspection of facilities using radiation, investigation of radiation incidents, and surveillance of radioactive contamination in the environment. Effective July 2025, California’s Personal Leave Program (PLP 2025) reduces employees’ base pay by 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits monthly through June 2027. Job Description and Duties This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing billing and renewal support for California’s licensed X-ray technologists, machine registrants, and radioactive materials license holders to ensure the health and safety of Californians from ionizing radiation. The Supervising Program Technician II (Sup. PT II) supervises and monitors the workload of staff who review and process billing and payments for various programs managed by the Radiologic Health Branch (RHB). The Sup. PT II serves as a liaison, resolving complex billing issues with facilities, business owners, doctors, office managers, and other license and permit holders. The Sup. PT II plans, organizes, and directs workflow, provides quality control for data entries, and makes recommendations to management on difficult assignments. The incumbent is also responsible for training new staff, assessing their competence regularly, and completing performance evaluations. Telework Information This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions.
