Accompanist

I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

Position Title: Accompanist Location: St. Jude Catholic Parish, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46227 Status: Part-Time FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Ministry Operations Supervises: N/A

II. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Accompanist is a musician who provides organ/piano accompaniment for liturgies and other special events at the parish (e.g. Funerals, Weddings, etc.), as requested/scheduled by the Director of Music. The Accompanist will also assist with choir/ensemble rehearsals, as requested, typically in preparation for Christmas, Holy Week, and any special events presented by the Music Ministry. As an integral part of Catholic worship, the Accompanist is understood to work with, and in service to, the congregation.

III. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DELIVERABLES

• Provide accompaniment for Weekend Masses, Holy Days, and other special events at the parish, as requested/scheduled, under direction of the Director of Music
• Assist the Director of Music with choir/ensemble rehearsals one hour before all liturgies, with some mid-week rehearsals to prepare for special events or solemnities (e.g. Holy Week, Christmas)
• Arrives at the liturgy or event fully familiar with all musical selections and prepared to play with excellence
• Offered right of first refusal for Funeral and Wedding Masses at St. Jude, for additional stipend
• Maintains strong line of communication and collaboration with the Director of Music regarding all aspects of the Music Ministry pertaining to the Accompanist role
• Presents a respectful and professional demeanor during all liturgies and events

IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
• Must possess a strong commitment to the Catholic faith and a passion for sharing the faith with joy and enthusiasm
• Must possess a working knowledge of the Roman Missal/Order of the Mass
• Must demonstrate capability of accompanying a choir/ensemble/cantor on both the organ and piano
• Must possess strong communication skills

V. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Capabilities in instrumental (piano and organ) and vocal preferred
• Practical experience of 5+ years in a parish setting preferred
• Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
• Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training
• Background screening required
• Valid driver's license required

VI. WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Night and weekend work required, in support of weekend liturgies, Holy Days, and other special liturgical functions or events
