Posting Summary Rutgers University Correctional Health Care seeks a Part‑Time Staff Nurse for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center located in Avenel, NJ. The Staff Nurse will use the nursing process to address a variety of health‑care needs, with ambulatory care as the primary focus for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Key Responsibilities Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of resident‑patients, including adolescents (13‑17 years), adults (18–64 years), and their families within the correctional framework. Perform assessments of resident‑patients in diverse settings such as initial intake, sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics, and the infirmary. Collaborate with health‑care professionals and security officers within a correctional environment. Identify inmate‑centered goals and nursing objectives, and implement interventions to address identified problems. Plan nursing care based on assessment findings, making timely referrals and initiating care in accordance with institutional policies and procedures. Act as team leader or charge nurse, delegating duties to other health‑care team members based on skill, knowledge, and experience, and guiding the delivery of care by others. FLSA Non‑exempt. Grade 01D. Certifications and Licenses License to practice in the State of New Jersey. CPR certification required. Valid driver’s license and possession of a vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent. Minimum of one year of experience in a correctional setting. Physical Demands and Work Environment As a first responder, the nurse must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and be able to lift and carry an emergency treatment bag that may weigh up to 45 pounds, as well as assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Special Conditions Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
