Social Studies Teacher, Northridge High School Position type : Secondary School Teaching / Social Studies Date posted : 6/2/2026 Location : Northridge High School Classification : Exempt Contract length/days : 2026-2027 / 190 Days Salary : Salary placement on the Certified Salary schedule is dependent on the employee’s education and/or work experience. Certified/licensed employees will be granted one (1) year for each full year of contractual and/or work experience up to a maximum of ten (10) years, which includes in‑district and out‑of‑district contractual teaching and/or work experience. Responsibility for verification of outside experience rests with the individual employee. Reports to : School Principal Deadline for application : Until filled Education / Experience Required : Bachelor’s Degree Colorado Teaching License Preferred : Experience in a related field Bilingual Job Description Summary / Objective : Provide an enriched atmosphere where students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society. Facilitate learning and guide students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. Responsible to the building principal and department director where assigned. Essential Functions Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies. Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students. Use instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and standards. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Diagnose the learning abilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required. Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and/or volunteers, and work cooperatively with department heads. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups involved. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives. Respect students' personal spaces throughout the day. Implement students' IEP plans while ensuring the integrity of academic time and motivating students to learn and participate. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Accept a share of the responsibility for co‑curricular activities as assigned. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible. Model non‑discriminatory practices in all activities. Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices. Maintain confidentiality regarding students’ information. Additional Qualifications Must be able to follow oral and written directions; establish effective working relationships with staff and students; maintain effective classroom management strategies; possess visual, auditory and ambulatory ability; have excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate conflict management skills; show strong organizational skills; be empathetic and a positive relationships builder; possess knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the function of the position as outlined. Other Duties Knowledge of Colorado and district content standards. Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position. Preference for leadership situations relating to meeting the social, emotional, psychological, and academic needs of students. Preference for a work environment that allows flexibility, the ability to deal with conflict, a high tolerance for stress, and the ability to quickly internalize information and make informed decisions. Work Environment / Physical Demands Ability to sit for long periods; manage numerous distractions; require visual, auditory, and ambulatory acuity. Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
