Backend Developer - Compliance Data Solutions (Sunnyvale, CA / Remote-Eligible, 1099)

About the Role

As a Backend Developer, you'll blend data and software engineering, delivering greenfield projects and enhancing mission-critical systems. Responsibilities

- Design, implement, and optimize logical/physical data models and scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to consolidate compliance data.
- Build and maintain event-driven integration components, including AWS Lambda functions and Step Functions workflows.
- Develop robust backend services, APIs, workflow orchestrations, and dashboard backends to support regulatory needs.
- Write, test, and deploy clean, maintainable, and secure production code for critical systems.
- Implement rigorous data quality checks, validation, and monitoring for compliance-critical datasets.
- Enhance existing backend services to meet evolving compliance requirements and support new jurisdictions.
- Build components to handle sensitive regulatory data, ensuring encryption and access controls are enforced.
- Contribute to self-service analytics platforms by developing reporting tools and dashboards.
- Maintain and monitor production systems with comprehensive logging, alarming, and automated diagnostics.
- Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and Agile sprint ceremonies.

Required Skills and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of data engineering, including data modeling, pipeline development, and data warehouse design.
- 3+ years professional software development experience building production backend services.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or TypeScript.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Strong experience with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, DynamoDB).

Preferred Skills

- Event-driven architecture (Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS).
- Serverless development on AWS.
- Infrastructure as code (CDK, CloudFormation).
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance or telecommunications.
- AWS certification.
