Posting Summary Rutgers University Correctional Health Care seeks a Per Diem Staff Nurse for the East Jersey State Prison located in Rahway, NJ. The Staff Nurse will apply the nursing process to meet diverse health‑care needs in an ambulatory setting, collaborate with health‑care professionals and security staff, and perform nursing protocols while serving as an assigned team leader. Key Responsibilities Provide direct and indirect nursing care for inmates (ages 18‑64 and 65+) and their families within the correctional system framework. Utilize effective communication skills, demonstrating respect, concern, and courtesy in all interactions. Leverage current knowledge to promote a safe environment for the delivery of health care to inmate patients. Maintain current professional skills and pursue professional growth to enhance correctional nursing practice. Adhere to personnel policies to support the operation of the health‑care unit. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in New Jersey. CPR certification required. Valid driver’s license with own vehicle or reliable transportation between sites. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent. Minimum one year of experience in a correctional setting. Physical Demands Must perform CPR for at least ten minutes, lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds, and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds. Special Conditions Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. Salary Hourly rate: $59.01 / hr (Grade 99H). Salary may vary based on qualifications, experience, and funding.
