Campus Safety Coordinator – Level 2 (CSC-2)Under the direction of the school principal, the Campus Safety Coordinator – Level 2 (CSC-2) assists schools in providing primary protection and intervention services for students, employees, and the school community. The CSC-2 functions as a first responder in the event of an emergency. The primary focus of the CSC-2 is to implement the requirements set forth in the School Guardian Program (Utah Code, 53-22-105) and provide concealed and armed protection in the assigned school. Although the CSC-2 may take actions necessary to prevent an active threat, the CSC-2 may not act in a law enforcement capacity. The CSC-2 may be reassigned to any school based on the needs of the district.Additionally, the Campus Safety Coordinator – Level 2 (CSC-2) assists schools in providing intervention services for at-risk students by building positive relationships with students and leveraging those relationships to fully engage students in the learning environment. The CSC-2 works collaboratively with staff and students to promote a positive learning climate by overseeing the safety of the school campus, monitoring attendance, enforcing truancy prevention programs and disciplinary policies, reporting pertinent information to appropriate school administrators, and supporting administrative and campus activities. The CSC-2 will consistently promote the expectation of high achievement for all students by providing preventive support and is responsive to referrals for students who are experiencing personal, social, or academic barriers to regular school attendance.Minimum Required QualificationsAll positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:High school diploma or equivalentObtain a valid concealed carry permit within three (3) months of start dateComplete an initial "fit to carry" assessment with the district before start date and maintain compliance with mental health screening requirementsComplete initial training as required by Utah Code 53-22-105, within 6 months of hireComplete annual 4-hour training as required by Utah Code 53-22-105, within 6 months of hire, and every year thereafterComplete biannual (twice-yearly) 4-hour training as required by Utah Code 53-22-105, within 12 months of hire, and every year thereafterFirst Aid certification obtained within 3 months from the date of hireCurrent Utah driver's license and evidence of insurabilityBasic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in EnglishPreferred QualificationsThese are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.Experience working with student groups, community support agencies, school districts, community outreach agencies, or related organizationsExperience working in security, law enforcement, or a related fieldExperience using conflict de-escalation techniquesIntermediate experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)Spanish or other language proficiency, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understandEssential Functions & ResponsibilitiesAct in the capacity of a first responder in emergency situations at the assigned school. May be assigned to any school based on district needComplete initial, annual, and biannual training and "fit-to-carry" and mental health screening assessments as required by state lawMaintain a valid concealed carry permit and carry a firearm in a concealed manner while physically present at the assigned school. May not, unless during an active threat, display or open carry a firearm while on school groundsTemporarily detain individuals as needed when there is reasonable cause to believe the individual has committed or is about to commit a forcible felony, as defined by state lawFile reports as required by state lawSupport building safety drills and school-level safety plansUnder limited supervision, support a school-based approach to promoting the importance of regular attendance through the implementation of appropriate strategies and the coordination of referrals to appropriate resources and student support servicesSupport appropriate interventions for students whose attendance needs improvement by identifying and reducing barriers to regular attendance and developing creative strategies to re-engage studentsAdhere to and apply school, district, and legal policies and procedures, and promote an environment conducive to student achievement and well-beingAssist school personnel with maintaining the safety of the school community and facilities, and assist with the supervision of assigned school activitiesMonitor school security systems such as security video, alarm systems, locks/gates, and doors to minimize and eliminate potential security issues and unsafe conditionsCommunicate information regularly with relevant school personnel and students to foster strong connections to the school and coordinate efforts to improve attendance and maintain a safe learning and working environmentImplement intervention protocols for students that address academic and school attendance issues, alleviate isolation, identify support resources, and provide referrals to counseling or administrative staffPerform record keeping of attendance, identify students with attendance concerns, prepare attendance reports, and perform other clerical functionsCollaborate with administrators, students, parents, and other support teams to implement prevention and intervention strategies to improve attendance ratesEstablish appropriate relationships with students, teachers, and administrators to collaboratively resolve attendance problemsCommunicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and other district employeesIdentify visual or aural cues such as facial expressions, body language, physical surroundings, noises, etc., to accurately identify potential areas of concern or inappropriate activityUnder the direction of administrative guidelines and policy, refer incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g., injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.)Inform students of school policies and enforcement procedures to ensure understanding and the potential consequences of attendance policy violationsMonitor student behavior before, during, and after school, such as in the lunchroom, classrooms, detention, and hallways, to ensure student compliance with established regulations and maintain a safe and positive learning environmentPrepare confidential and non-confidential documentation (e.g., student information, interventions, incident and activity reports, correspondence, security logs, reports, etc.) to document activities, provide support to students, and to convey informationRespond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concernsWork with other safety personnel (e.g., School Resource Officers (SRO), and other campus safety staff) to help maintain a safe learning and working environmentParticipate in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information required to perform functionsWork under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlinesAdapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as requiredMaintain a visible, accessible presence on campus, supporting attendance policies and increasing student awareness of support services availablePerform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unitMaintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectivelyEmployee Supervisory Responsibilities: NoWork Environment & Physical Demands: Campus Safety Coordinator level 2The Salt Lake City School District is committed to providing access, equal opportunity, and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities in employment, and its services, programs, and activities.
