***This is a Peace Officer Position . To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer.

STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER SUPERVISOR I (LIFEGUARD) –  ANGELES DISTRICT / SANTA MONICA BAY SECTOR / PUBLIC SAFETY / DOCKWEILER STATE BEACH

The reporting location for this position will be Dockweiler State Beach in Santa Monica Bay Sector.

This position will work general supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor II (Lifeguard), the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor I (Lifeguard) is responsible for the visitor services, public safety, seasonal lifeguard operations, and law enforcement functions of Dockweiler SB and Will Rogers State Beach with a focus on the aquatic activities and operations. The State Park Peace Officer Supervisor I (Lifeguard) serves as a working supervisor responsible to ensure efficient, effective, and comprehensive visitor services operations while performing safety and enforcement, patrol, interpretation, resource protection/management, and effective visitor facility operation.

This position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, and irregular hours.

State housing may be required . *Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.

Working Conditions

Work environment is an office/contact station setting, using computers, telephone and other business equipment. Typical work activities involve frequent and prolonged periods of sitting. Typical work involves extended telephone conversations and keyboard operation. Must meet many deadlines within short time frames. Hand dexterity to use telephone, keyboard and calculators are common requirements. Move about, stand, reach, stoop or bend. Use fine motor skills for computer or office machine use. Lift supply boxes minimum weight of 10 pounds to maximum weight of 50 pounds. Use of hand cart to move supplies over 10 pounds of weight. Requires reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. May involve some exposure to aggressive visitors. Will work outdoors in unpredictable weather ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold. May come in contact with wild animals. This is a uniformed position, uniform standards must be met. Must be willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays as necessary.
