Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers allowed with at least 18 months of MedSurg experience and Epic or Cerner experience. At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience. RNs are required to interpret and confirm q4 hours strip reading.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; NM/Eanh approval required for blackout dates. Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day week: 2/13-16; entire month of March; Easter weekend: 4/18-20; Mother’s Day weekend: 5/10-12; Memorial Day week: 5/24-5/26; Father’s Day weekend: 6/14-16; Fourth of July: 7/3-7/6; Labor Day weekend: 8/30-9/1; Halloween: 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving: 11/26-11/30; Christmas and New Year’s: 12/21-1/1.

Unit Details: Float pool may be assigned to 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North MedSurg/Oncology, 4 South Clinical Decision Unit, 3 South Orthopedics, and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology. 6 North cares for general surgery and vascular surgery patients; ratios 1:5-6. 5 South cares for CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; ratios 1:5-6. 5 North cares for MedSurg/Oncology, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, and all patient types except stroke and MI; ratio 1:6; chemo administration if certified. 4 South Clinical Decision Unit sees general MedSurg patients including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; ratios 1:5-6. 3 South cares for orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; ratios 1:5 or 1:6 if MedSurg. 3 North cares for urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg patients; ratios 1:5-6. Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs, and RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings q4 hours. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors. Parking: Parking deck only 2nd through 4th levels

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No on-call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling, uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to like units and patient locations: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off.
