Position Type: Substitute Salary: $24.78 per hour Application Deadline: Posted until filled Starting Date: Immediately Job Description District‑wide substitute bus driver required when a regular bus driver is absent. Key Responsibilities Advise and train students and passengers on appropriate behavior to enforce regulations and maintain passenger safety. Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and potential emergency situations and recommend resolutions. Assist students and passengers with safe loading and unloading from buses, including emergency and normal transport. Attend required meetings and trainings to maintain and learn new skills in accordance with the school bus driver certification requirements. Clean vehicles, both interior and exterior, to ensure safety, appearance, and sanitation. Communicate with school personnel, parents, and others about schedule changes, route conditions, and student issues. Conduct emergency evacuation drills to ensure procedure efficiency and compliance with mandated requirements. Drive school buses over scheduled routes safely and promptly, including the use of tire chains and handling various road conditions. Fuel vehicles to maintain safe operating condition. Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition) to comply with safety guidelines. Prepare documents and reports (e.g., field trip reports, incident reports, inspection records, mileage logs, student counts, routing information). Report observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents) to appropriate personnel. Respond to inquiries from students, parents, and school personnel to provide information and direction. Supervise students and passengers during transit to maintain safety, order, and rights, following district policy. Other Functions Assist other personnel as needed to ensure an efficient and effective work environment. Minimum Qualifications Skills: Ability to perform single technical tasks and upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions, including safety practices, operating equipment (buses, vans, etc.), and accurate record preparation. Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios) and written procedures, ability to write routine documents, clear verbal communication, and analysis of situations for problem resolution. Specific knowledge includes safety practices, relevant codes, policies, regulations, and local street and location knowledge. Abilities: Scheduling activities, collating data, using equipment with standardized methods, working with diverse individuals, problem‑solving, confidentiality, meeting deadlines, teamwork, communication, and a positive attitude. Working Environment The job involves occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed 80% sitting, 15% walking, and 5% standing, under minimal temperature variations and occasional hazardous conditions.
