It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work These (3) positions are located at Bertie Correctional Institute in Windsor, North Carolina. Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is responsible for conducting initial assessments of offender needs and developing case plans, monitoring for compliance and results, and revising as appropriate to meet offender needs and achieve system objectives. Job Responsibilities Salary Range: $35,984.00 - $62,971.00 Assessing offender behavior and developing counseling strategies to achieve desired offender progress. Answering offender questions, giving information about classification and sentencing status, corresponding with offender families, and providing supportive counseling. Organizing and directing the activities of various rehabilitation programs provided for offenders. Conducting work release and home leave investigations, coordinating community resources, planning and coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. Making recommendations to the offender classification committees on an offenders’ program involvement or custody level change. Working with offenders whose problems, needs, and comprehension levels, vary greatly. Serving in a custody role during certain activities and working some evening hours, weekends, and holidays. Management Preferences Documented knowledge of Prison Policy and Procedures and/or Facility Operations. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase may result. Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
