Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS Must-Have: Required certifications and general nursing skills; at least 2 years of nursing experience, with a preference for at least 1 prior travel assignment and SANE RN experience; experience in a teaching hospital is preferred. Description: The Emergency Room provides care for a broad spectrum of patients, from newborns to the elderly. Nurses will encounter various complaints, from minor cases to critically ill patients. Common diagnoses include strokes and heart attacks, with the presence of Level 1/2 trauma patients. A specialized team of nurses cares for critically ill patients in designated trauma bays. Travelers may care for trauma patients after they have been stabilized. Nurses will work with varying patient ratios based on acuity, typically ranging from 3 to 5 patients. Proficiency in titrating various medications, including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive drugs, is essential. A minimum of three physicians are staffed at all times, along with house supervisors. ED techs assist nurses, with a typical ratio of 1 tech for every 9 patients. Nurses are expected to interpret cardiac rhythms and act accordingly, with Phillips monitors in use. Nurses, along with techs, will be responsible for drawing labs. The schedule includes weekend rotations, with requirements for every other weekend and occasional holidays. Floating to other units as needed may occur, though travelers are rarely floated. Scrubs should be tasteful with solid-colored shirts underneath.
