School Bus Driver

Transports students safely and efficiently to and from school and extracurricular activities. Maintains orderly conduct on the bus and serves as a positive, professional representative of the Bolivar R-1 School District.

Core Objective & Team Philosophy The School Bus Driver is often the first and last district face our students see each day. A critical function of this role is to provide a safe, welcoming, and consistent environment for all students. Drivers must prioritize safety above all else, maintain clear communication with the transportation director and schools, and support district policies to ensure smooth and reliable daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety & Vehicle Operations: Drive in a safe manner, putting safety first at all times and adjusting speeds for road and weather conditions. Complete a daily pre-trip inspection of all lights and equipment, report any defects or damages after each trip, and submit completed checklists every Friday. Strictly adhere to district policy prohibiting the use of cell phones while operating the bus or fueling.
• Route & Schedule Management: Clock in 30 minutes prior to trip departure to allow adequate time to prepare the bus. Follow the appointed schedule strictly, not varying by more than five minutes daily, and pull over to wait if arriving at a stop prematurely (never drive fast to make up time). Must be available for early dismissals and provide a minimum of 48 hours notice for scheduled absences (or 2 hours for unscheduled emergencies).
• Student Supervision & Conduct: Maintain a fair and unbiased discipline policy, utilize seating charts on each route, and report disciplinary problems using appropriate forms. Expected to remain on the bus while loading at the schools, and never leave a bus with students on it. Maintain strictly professional boundaries and relationships with all students at all times.
• Bus Maintenance & Cleanliness: Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the bus interior. This includes checking the bus for students and belongings after each trip, closing all windows and doors, and thoroughly sweeping the bus at least once a week.
• Physical Demands: Must be able to fulfill all essential physical functions of the position, including safely climbing bus stairs and pulling/lifting the necessary weight required to operate the vehicle and assist students during emergencies.
• Qualifications & Compliance: Must possess a valid CDL License with a School Endorsement, maintain a clean driving record, and have no felony convictions. Required to pass a mandatory physical, submit to pre-employment and random DOT drug/breathalyzer testing, and complete all district-assigned safety and professional development training.
