Night Stock Manager

Night Stock Manager Department: Grocery FLSA: Non-Exempt Night Shift – Must be 18 or older, Overnight shifts. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a positive and friendly atmosphere for both customers and employees. Set and uphold department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, appearance, and profitability. Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service, greeting customers, learning and using their names, and assisting them with locating products or other needs. Answer the telephone promptly and provide helpful service to callers. Order products from the warehouse and the grocery dock; prepare and place pre‑orders; coordinate with assistant managers and part‑time employees. Supervise the night stock crew—assign duties, conduct consultations, monitor productivity, review crew performance, and train new employees on stocking procedures. Coordinate the CARS system: set up inventory sections, trigger reorders, remove damaged items, and generate and review orders. Unload trucks and break down pallets, pulling items to the back room and sorting them to match the aisles. Check in vendor deliveries piece by piece (e.g., Lomar, bread, chips). Supervise drop‑shipment and direct store deliveries. Create and manage the night stock schedule; monitor time‑off requests, vacation requests, and sick calls. Review and monitor weekly overtime hours. Train new employees in product handling, order tags, UPCs, checking, sacking, and stocking. Train supervisors on register handling, customer service, and department services. Troubleshoot and repair store equipment such as cash registers, coolers, compressors, and display cases. Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress, and company policies. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Run back stock and understock (e.g., cereal, paper, juice), filling holes as needed. Assist with customer service tasks such as checkout, checking, sacking, carry outs, cash accountability, day‑end reports, and register operations. Meet with crew members weekly or as needed. Set and reset new items and tags, and price items as required. Set in‑store specials for previous advertisement items and adjust pricing using cost‑plus percentages. Supervise produce and frozen food truck unloading and ensure items are placed in proper coolers. Assist in other store areas as needed. Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required. Supervisory Responsibilities Instruct, assign work, review work, plan others’ tasks, maintain standards, allocate personnel, and coordinate activities. Select new employees and address employee issues. Recommend transfers, promotions, discipline, and discharge, and suggest salary increases. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics Problem‑solving skills for non‑standard tasks and interpreting instructions. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. Ability to compose correspondence, interpret written instructions, interview applicants, and follow technical manuals. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent experience; three to five years of similar or related work experience. Physical Requirements Perform heavy work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and in excess of 100 pounds to move objects. Visual requirement: see detail at near range with or without correction. Sit or stand, walk, reach, handle, and perform repetitive motions as needed. Working Conditions Occasional exposure to noise, vibrations, equipment movement hazard, chemicals/solvents, and frequent dirt. Equipment Used Computer, compressor, C.A.R.S. system, power jack, compactor, check register, forklift, scales, Tomra machines, two‑wheeler, and box cutter. Financial Responsibility Cash registers, pre‑orders and regular orders, inventory, CARS system and orders, pricing items, and received deliveries.
