Join the Sam Lena-South Tucson Library as a part-time Library Technical Assistant! This position provides customer service, assists customers with library technology and personal electronic devices, and supports daily library operations. We invite candidates with experience resolving customer concerns, organizing work, and prioritizing tasks to apply.

This position requires the ability to report to, and travel between, assigned library locations during the workday within a reasonable timeframe.

Essential Functions:

• Provides customer service by working directly with the public, answering telephone calls, sending electronic communications, interpreting and relaying library and Pima County policies and procedures, resolving complaints, and providing technical assistance with library equipment and software;
• Assists the public in the use of library resources and services including the catalog, databases, online accounts, digital downloads and self-service technologies;
• Troubleshoots and maintains library computers which includes working with library department and Pima County IT staff to resolve technological issues at division level;
• Assists library users with personal devices and technology including common web-based platforms, digital downloads, operating systems, software, and applications;
• Checks items in and out, issues and updates library cards, collects fines, processes deposits, bills customer accounts, issues refunds, processes reserved items and ILLs and researches information in customer accounts;
• Provides services to community members and library users by demonstrating cultural competence and emotional intelligence in support of the Library’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as well as strategic directions;
• Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Abides by state and federal laws in handling confidential and sensitive information;
• Demonstrates and utilizes skills in problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and assessing needs of library patrons to effectively answer questions and meet requests.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of skills, education or experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the duties and responsibilities identified in the classification. Other specific requirements may be identified by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

• Minimum one (1) year experience working in a library setting.
• Minimum one (1) year experience in customer service.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish - speaking, reading, writing).
• Minimum two (2) years experience with technology (email, eBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, personal electronic devices such as tablets, cell phones, e-readers, library website, Google forms or docs).
• Experience using an integrated library system (ILS), such as Sierra, Polaris, SirsiDynix, Millenium, Alma, Symphony, Horizon, Carl, and/or Apollo.
• Experience using a cash register and handling money.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates : Some positions may require specialized certification or licensure relative to assignment at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an Initial or promotional probation period. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required certifications/licenses shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items : This position works rotating shifts, including nights and weekends. Some positions may require bilingual abilities in English and a second language, as determined by the department head. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Pima County determines whether a position is eligible for visa sponsorship at the time of recruitment. Eligibility is based on the requirements of the position and applicable laws and regulations. Working Conditions : Primarily works in a public Library environment serving diverse populations. Other working conditions will be determined by position.
