Family Law and/or Civil Litigation Attorney

Location: Bismarck, ND

About the Position

A well-established and growing law firm in Bismarck, North Dakota is seeking a Family Law and/or Civil Litigation Attorney to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney at any stage of their career — from a newly licensed attorney looking to build their practice to an experienced attorney with 20+ years of experience.

The firm is open to candidates with a background in family law, civil litigation, or both , and will consider experience levels ranging from entry-level to highly experienced practitioners. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, analytical thinker, and dedicated advocate who is interested in providing high-quality legal representation to clients.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in family law and/or civil litigation matters
• Conduct legal research and analyze statutes, case law, and legal issues
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, settlement agreements, and other legal documents
• Manage cases from initial consultation through resolution
• Prepare for and participate in hearings, depositions, mediations, negotiations, and trials
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, strategy, and expectations
• Develop case strategies based on the facts, applicable law, and client objectives
• Conduct discovery and review relevant documents and evidence
• Negotiate settlements and represent clients in alternative dispute resolution proceedings
• Maintain accurate case files and meet court deadlines and procedural requirements
• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, legal staff, and other professionals
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
• Active license to practice law in the State of North Dakota, or eligibility to obtain one
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines
• Professional judgment and the ability to work independently

Experience

All experience levels are encouraged to apply.

• Entry-Level Attorneys: Attorneys who are newly licensed or have limited practical experience are encouraged to apply. The firm is willing to provide mentorship, training, and opportunities to develop courtroom and client-management skills.
• Mid-Level Attorneys: Attorneys with several years of experience can take on increasing responsibility and manage cases independently.
• Experienced Attorneys: Attorneys with 10, 20+ years of experience are welcome to bring their established knowledge, courtroom experience, client relationships, and leadership abilities to the practice.

Experience in family law, civil litigation, domestic relations, divorce, custody, child support, property disputes, contract disputes, personal injury, commercial litigation, or other contested legal matters is a plus.
