Position: OFT Temporary Project Staff Organizer (Full Time, Grant Funded)

Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT), Local 8033, is a statewide union representing teachers, paraprofessionals, library workers, public employees, social workers, and other professionals.

The Ohio Federation of Teachers is posting for a Temporary Project Staff Organizer , who will be responsible for leading and providing support to organizing campaigns.

OFT staff are subject to assignments throughout the state based on the needs of the union. However, this position will primarily be based out of Cincinnati.

Duties: 
The Temporary Project Staff Organizer is responsible for a variety of aspects of organizing campaigns, including providing support to existing organizing campaigns and pursuing potential leads. The scope of the organizing will not be limited to a particular sector, profession, or region.

Specific job duties include:

• Developing issues-based campaign plans, including timelines and benchmarks
• Building relationships with workers
• Training workers on structured organizing conversations 
• Attending and facilitating organizing committee meetings 
• Recruiting and sustaining motivation of organizing committee members and activists, and
• All other duties as assigned by the OFT President

The person in this position would be expected to regularly debrief their work and check-in with the Organizing Director and OFT President or designee.

Qualifications:

• Organizing experience (union/community/non-profit) 
• Effective writer and speaker
• Ability to connect with workers and move them to action
• Ability to lead an effective, on-task meeting
• Organized and self-motivated
• Working knowledge of OFT and labor unions
• Must own car, carry automobile insurance, and be willing to drive for work
• Willingness to travel and to work nights and weekends

Please Note: This position is grant funded. The duration of the grant is one year, with a possible second year extension. Applicants should be aware that after two years, the funding for this position will cease.

Salary commensurate with experience. Minimum salary $56,666.
