Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential support in emergency care. This full-time position on the P-Shift offers an opportunity to contribute directly to patient well-being and safety under the guidance of the Emergency Services leadership.

General Summary

Under general supervision, the Emergency Department Technician Level 1 performs both direct and indirect patient care activities designed to enhance patient outcomes and safety. Responsibilities include vital signs monitoring, 12-lead EKG administration, specimen collection, point-of-care testing such as glucometer use, and assisting with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, feeding, and mobility support.

Additional duties involve splinting, crutch training, application and removal of backboards, cervical collars, and KED devices, simple wound care, and assisting with medical exams and procedures. The role also includes monitoring physical restraints and transporting patients within and outside the department.

Indirect care tasks include stocking supplies, cleaning patient rooms and care areas, answering call lights, and potentially serving as Lead Technician. The Lead Tech facilitates communication, problem-solving, multitasking, and provides respectful direction to the team.

Strong organizational skills, accountability, and the ability to perform well under pressure are essential. Effective communication with patients, visitors, and staff is required, including conflict de-escalation and sharing pertinent patient information with healthcare team members. Professionalism in greeting and directing patients and visitors is expected.

Documentation of all relevant patient information in electronic health records must be timely and accurate. Participation in ongoing education, competency testing, quality audits, and council activities is required to maintain high standards of care and compliance with infection prevention and safety protocols.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience in direct patient caregiving roles is preferred.

Requirements

• Certification as PCA or CNA preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Class E driving license within 90 days of hire, if applicable.
• CEVO certification to be completed within 90 days of hire or as available.

Mental and Physical Demands

Requires considerable mental concentration, frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 35 lbs., and various physical movements such as turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and biohazardous materials is intermittent but predictable. The role may also involve interaction with hostile individuals.
